CVUCelebrations September 18, 2026

Dear Community,

Please mark your calendars for next Thursday evening, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., and join us for “CVU at a Glance”, our CVU-style open house!

This evening is all about your student and their experience at CVU. We invite parents and caregivers to spend a little time in their student’s world—to see the spaces where they learn, visit their classrooms, and meet some of the teachers and staff who are part of their school experience this fall.

We know that every student’s CVU experience is unique, and we hope this evening helps you see and appreciate the many ways your student can find their place, pursue their interests, be supported, and feel a sense of belonging here.

Most of all, we hope you’ll leave with a little more insight into your student’s world. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing a glimpse of your student’s CVU experience!

We have a packed week with the themes for each day, Senior Sunrise, and the 9th Grade BBQ on Friday 9/25. There are also lots of sports games for you to attend and Homecoming to top it all off Saturday night from 7-10!

This year's Spirit Week themes are:

Tuesday 9/22: Pajama Day - Start the week off comfy in your pajamas!

Wednesday 9/23: Twin/squad Day - Match outfits with a friend or friends!

Thursday 9/24: Sports Jersey Day - Wear the jersey of your favorite team!

Friday 9/25: Red Out - Support your Redhawks by wearing red!

There are opportunities for everyone to show school spirit this week, so get involved, have fun, and go Hawks!

Habitat Wallraising: CVU was well represented at Friday afternoon's wallraising on Mechanicsville Road. It was kicked off by CVU grad Brett Johnson, CEO of Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity, who shared his deep connection to Hinesburg. Also on present were graduates Matt Francis (with Affordable Housing Committee) and Alex Farrell (VT's Commissioner of Houseingand Community Development). Rounding out the CVU squad was Superintendent Adam Bunting who helped raise the wall. Thanks to Daniel Lyons, CVU Special Educator who has created a program which brings CVU students to Habitat work sites to learn and volunteer.

A few notes about the dance:

RoboHawk DEVO at the New England Championships!

CVU RedHawk Robotics attended the new season KICK-OFF event at UVM this past Saturday at the Innovation Hall on the UVM campus. There were several teams from around Chittenden County. It was a chance to get a first glimpse of this year’s FIRST Tech Challenge robot game competition! This season is another FUN one! This year’s game is called BIOBUZZ with a very bee and flower theme! Student engineers will need to design robots that can collect and shoot different sized balls (“pollen” and “nectar”).

This year CVU is looking to have THREE robotics teams!

RoboHawks (FTC #5741) is the senior team and the REIGNING 5 TIME Vermont State Champions!

RoboHawks DEVO (FTC #22683) is the Development Team composed of 9th-11th graders which was in the runner’s up alliance in last year’s championship!

RoboHawk Valkyries (FTC #27581) NEW ALL-GIRLS robotics team!

Nexus Class

Nexus students work together on a puzzle task, followed by an individual reflection, all to understand the driving force of reflection as they start the projects they've designed on their own.

Heroes and Monsters in The Discussion Lab

I had the pleasure of facilitating half of Adrian Walther's Heroes and Monsters class in The Discussion Lab this week to discuss the hero's journey and The Most Dangerous Game. It's always so impressive to see how much poise and sincerity our juniors have developed at the table through their training in the 9th and 10th grades. Want to sign out The Discussion Lab or learn more about the space? See this FAQ

EnAct Week 1

From Katie Antos-Ketcham and Annie Bellerose: CVU's Environmental Action Club (EnAct) kicked off the 26-27 school year by creating a "Take Care of this Place" mural under the bus canopy. Kudos to this year's leaders, Abby G., Calista L., Ellie Z., Jill K., and Maggie M., for the fun, creative start to C3!

Valerie Gardner Student Trust

Are you a 10th or 11th grader who would like to have a voice in how CVU supports student ideas?

The Valerie Gardner Student Trust is looking for a 10th grade student and an 11th grade student to join its board!

As a student board member, you'll work with other students and adults to review grant requests submitted by CVU students. These grants help make student ideas and projects happen throughout our school community.

The Trust was established to:

  • Support the diversity of groups, activities, and opportunities available at CVU

  • Help create a more inclusive CVU community

  • Support student and teacher ideas that can make CVU a better place

This is a great opportunity to hear about the ideas your fellow students have, help decide which projects receive funding, and have a real voice in supporting our CVU community.

Interested? Please complete the application and bring it to Carol Fox in the main office.

The Valerie Gardner Student Trust Board Member Application

Applications are due Tuesday, September 29th.

We'd love to have you join us!
