Message from Dr. Antonelli

Dear Norwood Families,

Happy May! I hope everyone had a great weekend! The weather is looking liek it is going to get a bit warmer this week. It is the first time in a few years that it looks like it may not rain for the Save the Bay 4th grade field trip.

This week we will start the Math RICAS Testing. 4th and 5th grade will test this week. 3rd grade will test next week. We know our students will do a great job! Please make sure students come to school with a charged chromebook. Please make sure everyone gets enough rest and a good breakfast!

This week we celebrate our wonderful teachers and all they do for our students. There are some suggested activities below if you choose to participate. Thank you Norwood Teachers and staff!

This week there will be an Art Show happening on Monday at the Warwick Public Library at 5:00pm showcasing some of our students art. Tuesday 2nd grade will have thier presentation for Project Chick from Casey Farm. Thursday will be the All City Band Concert at Warwick Vets at 7pm. Saturday we have a big day. In the morning we have our Boys and Girls running program participating in the end of season 5K at Roger Williams Park. In the evening we have our Spring Dance happening at Pilgrim High School.

Our local Warwick Police Officer may be seen at dismissal. He will be there whenever he is available to come to help with traffic and parking. We thank him for his support!

As a reminder, the loop in the back of the school is a drive thru loop. It is not intended for parking and or stopping and leaving your car. If you need to do this please park in one of the lots in the side or back of the school. Please do not park along the loop for the safety of our staff and students. Please see the picture below to help as a guide of where to go.

Norwood School hours are 9:00 am - 3:10 pm.

Drop off is 8:40 am for students having breakfast and 8:50am for everyone else. We are not staffed before that time for drop off.

Students are dismissed at 3:10pm. Students in grades K-2 are dismissed out of the back of the All Purpose Room. Students in grade 3-5 are dismissed out the back door in front of the playground.

Attendance Attendance

From The Rhode Island Department of Education

What is Chronic Absenteeism?

Chronic Absenteeism is a measure of how many students miss a defined number of school days for any reason. Rhode Island defines Chronic Absenteeism as the percentage of students who miss 10% or more school days during the year (or 2 days per month).

Research shows that chronic absenteeism is associated with a number of negative consequences for students, including lower achievement, disengagement from school, course failure, and increased risk of dropping out.

Missing 10% of school or more makes it harder to learn

Early Dismissals

Please refrain from requesting an early dismissal for your child after 2:45pm. The dismissal process begins at 3:05pm and it becomes very difficult for us to fill an early dismissal request once the process begins.

Student Absences

Students will be marked absent, no matter the reason, if they are not in school.

If the absence is COVID related it will be entered as an excused absence.

STUDENT ABSENCE CALL-IN PROCEDURE

In accordance with Rhode Island State Law #16-19-10, Notification of Pupil Absence, the Warwick School Department requires that all parents/guardians call their child’s elementary school on the day that he/she will not be in attendance. We would like to receive all calls by 9:15 in the morning. If you are aware of a pending absence, feel free to call at any time prior to the day of the absence. In the event we do not hear from you, an automated call will be sent at 10:00 a.m. to inform you that your child did not arrive at school.
