Hello from Principal Guditus

Hello Eddy Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we dive into another exciting week at Eddy Elementary School! Here are some exciting updates to share with you:

  1. Hopefully my lucky Patriots sweatshirt did the trick on Friday. Go Pats!

  2. Black History Month: As I mentioned in last week's newsletter, we are recognizing Black History Month throughout February, and we will continue to announce an important person from the Black community each morning during announcements. Additionally, there are posters around the school celebrating Black History Month, in addition to Library Class and individual classes exploring Black History Month.

  3. Valentine’s Day: If a student would like to bring in valentines for classmates this week, please be inclusive by making sure students provide a valentine to each student in their class (teachers can provide a list of first names if needed). Please refrain from sending candy, per our district health policy. Thank you for your help with this! 🧑

  4. Conferences: Parent/Caregiver/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026 (evening conferences) and Friday, March 20 (afternoon conferences). A signup will come directly from your student's teacher in March.

  5. Book Fair: Our Eddy Elementary Scholastic Book Fair will be held the week of conferences, March 16-20, 2026, in the Eddy school library. It's a great chance for students to discover new books and foster a love for reading and literacy. If you are looking for a way to be involved, we are looking for one-time volunteers to help supervise the book fair. 30 minute slots are available, and you're welcome to sign up for how every many you'd like! You can sign up to volunteer here, and check out the Scholastic Eddy Book Fair page here. More information below!

  6. PreK-5 Literacy Night is this week! It will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 5:30-6:45pm at Stony Brook, and all are welcome.

  7. The Brewster PTO meeting will be right after Literacy Night, at 7:00pm at Stony Brook.

  8. Brewster School Committee meets this week, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 6:30pm at Brewster Town Hall.

A few reminders:

  • Arrival: Student supervision begins at 7:25am. Unfortunately, we do not have supervision prior to this time for dropoff. If a student has morning extra help with a teacher scheduled, they may arrive earlier than this with confirmation from the teacher.

  • Outdoor clothing: With fluctuating temperatures, please be sure to send your student in with hat, gloves, and jacket. When the temperature is warm enough, only students with snow gear and boots may play in the snow.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your student's education. Should you have any questions or need further information about something in our school, please feel free to reach out to your student's teacher or me.

Here's to a great week of learning!

Respectfully,

Steve Guditus

Eddy Scholastic Book Fair: Save The Date 3/16/26-3/20/26

Please save the date! Eddy Elementary School will hold its Scholastic Book Fair Monday, 3/16/26 through Friday, 3/20/26. Did you know? A portion of all sales comes back to Eddy Elementary School to help fund field trips, enrichment opportunities, and buy books for the Eddy Library. You can set up your student with a Scholastic e-wallet (preferred), where you load money onto the e-wallet, and there is no cash that exchanges hands. You may also send your student in with cash if you prefer. Parents and caregivers may also purchase books and items for students before school or during evening and afternoon conferences on 3/19 and 3/20. Students may purchase books or other items before school the book fair week, during library class, or during evening and afternoon conferences (see schedule below). We will have an Eddy donation e-wallet setup as well, and all donations will be used to help students pay for a book who cannot afford to purchase one, and any remaining funds will be used to purchase books for the Eddy Library. We are looking for volunteers to help supervise the book fair during the following times, and no experience is needed, just a smile and a willingness to help!

  • Thursday, 3/12/26: 1:00-3:00pm (help setup)
  • Monday, 3/16/26: 7:30-8:00am
  • Tuesday, 3/17/26: 7:30-8:00am
  • Wednesday, 3/18/26: 7:30-8:00am
  • Thursday, 3/19/26: 7:30-8:00am and 2:00-6:30pm (during evening conferences)
  • Friday, 3/20/26: 7:30-8:00am and 11:30am--3:00pm (during afternoon conferences)

If you are willing to help by volunteering some time, please sign up here!

Farmer Natasha and Hillside Farm

Our Farm to School Coordinator, Natasha Iannuzzi, joined us in the cafeteria this past week and had a taste test of sweet and sour chicken from Farmer Drew at Hillside Farm in Truro. This was the meal on the menu on Thursday, and students were able to chat with Farmer Natasha, see a slideshow of Farmer Drew at his farm in Truro, and taste test the chicken prepared by our wonderful food service workers, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Aucoin. See below for pictures!

NRHS Dramatic Acting Class Visits

Mr. Colgan, former Eddy/Stony music teacher, who now teaches at NRHS, brought his Dramatic Acting Class to Eddy this past week for a showing of a spoof of Robin Hood, acted by NRHS students. It was a great opportunity for students to interact with actors, meet NRHS students (several of whom are Eddy alumni!), and see what they will have the opportunity to do at NRHS in the future! Thank you to Mr. Colgan and Mr. Glancy for organizing this!

Smartphones and Smartwatches

A reminder to all families that our district protocol in elementary schools is that students stow away any cell phone when they get on the school bus, and that phones are off and away in backpacks during the school day. You can contact your student at any time by calling the main office, and Mrs. Reeves can get a message to your student. If your student needs to contact you, they may always call from the main office. If a student does not feel well, they should see Nurse Miller, who will assess your student, and will contact you with concerns and let you know if your student needs to be picked up.

Similarly, we ask for you to help us keep school focused on learning by having students either keep smartwatches at home or in a watch-only mode. We have had instances of students contacting their parents via personal devices, instead of going to the nurse, and to play games during the school day. You can help by speaking to your student about the use of smartphones and smartwatches, and about the importance of seeing Nurse Miller, Mrs Bono, Ms. Williams, Mrs. Reeves in the main office, or any staff member if they need assistance, so students can remain focused on academics and the task at hand. Thank you for your help with this, and don't hesitate to reach out to Principal Guditus with any questions about this.

Accepting Donations for Animal Rescue League

A group of third grade girls have created a group called "World Girls," and they are working to make the world a better place! They even made an announcement this past week asking for donations for the Animal Rescue League of Boston here in Brewster. Specifically, we are accepting donations of towels, blankets, dog beds, and anmial treats to support the Animal Rescue League; there is a donation bin in the front lobby. All are welcome to join World Girls - girls and boys alike - and they will continue their mission to make the world a better place with school, park, and beach cleanups this spring when the weather improves. Great job, girls!

Snacks & Water Bottle

A reminder that students have snack daily around 9:15am. Kindly send your student in with a healthy snack. Ideal snacks are: a piece of fruit, a small bag of pretzels, a yogurt pouch, or another healthy snack. Additionally, we have hydration stations with filtered water available throughout the school. In an effort to cut down on our use of plastic cups, kindly send your student in daily with a reuseable water bottle. If this poses a financial hardship, please reach out to School Adjustment Counselor Sonja Bono or Principal Steve Guditus.
