The Future of Westview: Our Story, Our Strength
3/8/26
Recently, the district released several long-range optimization scenarios for our schools. One of those scenarios includes the potential closure of Westview Middle School in the 2028–2029 school year. I know that seeing our school included in that discussion may have been concerning for many in our community.
Part of the rationale presented for this scenario referenced Westview’s three consecutive F accountability ratings, using those ratings as a measure of a “high-quality education.” It is understandable that questions would arise from that information. At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity to share my experience leading Westview this year and what an incredible honor it has been to serve this community.
The Westview community is rich with diversity and culture. Our families care deeply about their children and about this school. Our students are bright, kind, and thoughtful young people who genuinely care about one another and about their school. They want to succeed, and more often than not they rise to meet the expectations placed before them.
Our teachers and staff are extraordinary. They are caring, hardworking, and deeply committed to this community. This year I have asked an incredible amount of them as we worked to rapidly improve systems and instruction. Time and time again, they have risen to the occasion without hesitation. I have worked in turnaround situations before, but I have been continuously impressed by the resilience and determination of the Westview staff. At no point have they even come close to throwing in the towel.
I am also grateful for the support we have received from district leadership, who have consistently offered guidance and have allowed us the space to implement the changes necessary to move Westview forward.
You might reasonably ask: If Westview has all of these ingredients for success, why has the school received three consecutive F ratings?
The answer is that sometimes it takes the right moment, the right team, and the right alignment of efforts for things to truly begin to shift. This year, many of those elements have come together.
Our leadership team is deeply connected to the students and community we serve. Each member brings unique experiences that allow us to understand and support our students on multiple levels. Together, we work like pieces of a puzzle—collaborating quickly, identifying needs, and responding with urgency to improve outcomes for students.
This year, our campus has administered three benchmark assessments designed to predict success on the STAAR exam. The results from these assessments consistently project that Westview’s performance this year is on track to fall between a B and a C rating under the state accountability system. In addition, we are positioned to earn multiple distinctions.
Westview has so much to offer Pflugerville ISD and our broader community. We are the only PfISD school located within the Austin city limits, placing us in a unique position to serve families in the region. This year alone, we have welcomed multiple transfer students from nearby Austin ISD campuses such as Burnet Middle School. Westview is also the primary feeder campus for Connally High School, serving the west side of our district.
The truth is simple: Westview is on the rise.
With the strong foundation already in place and the momentum we are building, we believe Westview has the potential to become a model campus for our district. Our leadership team is already exploring innovative programming aligned to the district’s 3E initiative (Enlist, Enroll, Engage) that could further strengthen opportunities for our students in the coming years.
At this moment, we are on the right path—but we need the entire Westview community to help tell our story.
We need families, staff, students, and community members to share the value of Westview, celebrate the progress being made, and ensure that our voices are heard across the PfISD community.
The district has created several opportunities for community feedback as part of the optimization process. I strongly encourage everyone in our community to:
• Complete the ThoughtExchange survey (linked below in this newsletter)
• Attend the upcoming district community meetings
• Share your experiences and the value of Westview
In addition to the district engagement opportunities, we have begun organizing three action committees to focus our advocacy and continued improvement efforts:
Accountability Committee
Focused on ensuring that we remain laser-focused on student achievement and STAAR readiness this spring. This committee will primarily include teachers from STAAR-tested areas and will be led by Ms. Vela.
Recruitment Committee
Focused on sharing the story of Westview, recruiting new students and families, and inviting others to join our mission to strengthen and grow our school community. This committee will be led by Mr. Hartsfield.
Community Engagement Committee
Focused on aligning our messaging and strengthening partnerships with families and community members so that the voice of Westview is clear and unified. This committee will be led by Mr. Martinez and Mrs. Guzman de Peña.
Westview has always been more than a rating or a data point. It is a community filled with incredible students, dedicated educators, and families who care deeply about the success of their children.
I am honored to serve as your principal, and I firmly believe that the best chapters of Westview’s story are still ahead of us.
Together, we will continue to rise.
With gratitude,
Dr. Emily Delgado

📢 District Optimization: Shaping the Future of PfISD
As our community continues to grow and change, Pflugerville ISD is hard at work ensuring our facilities and resources are aligned to best serve our students. We are currently in the District Optimization phase and need your voice to help guide the Board of Trustees in their decision-making process.
The district has developed 12 distinct draft scenarios that explore different approaches to school boundaries, facility usage, and resource allocation.
View the Scenarios: You can review the detailed PDFs for all 12 scenarios (available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese) on the PfISD Draft Scenarios page.
No Immediate Changes: Please note that any scenarios approved by the Board will not take effect until the 2027-2028 school year.

Fine Arts Update
Wishing Our Band & Choir the Best at UIL!
We are incredibly proud of our Westview Band and Choir students as they prepare for their upcoming UIL Sightreading competitions. I recently had the pleasure of watching our band rehearse, and they never cease to amaze me with their talent, dedication, and focus. The level of commitment our students demonstrate during practice truly reflects the pride they take in their craft.
Last week, our band also participated in a performance as part of their preparation for the upcoming competition. Their hard work and musical growth were evident, and it was wonderful to see their progress as they continue preparing for UIL on April 1–2.
Our Westview Choir has also been working diligently as they prepare for their UIL Sightreading competition on March 26–27. Their dedication and passion for music are inspiring, and we are excited to see them showcase their talents.
We wish both our Band and Choir the very best as they represent Westview. No matter the outcome, we are already incredibly proud of their hard work, talent, and the way they represent our Wildcat community.
📱 Cell Phone Reminder
At Westview Middle School, our goal is to maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. As a reminder, cell phones are not allowed to be seen or used during the school day. This includes hallways, classrooms, and common areas.
To support consistency across the district, we will be following the PfISD Cell Phone Consequence Ladder for any violations:
OffenseConsequence 1st OffenseDevice confiscated — must be picked up by a parent or guardian. 2nd OffenseDevice confiscated and lunch detention assigned (documented in Skyward). 3rd OffenseDevice confiscated, ½ day of ISS, and a parent meeting required. Chronic IssuesMay result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or a temporary ban on bringing the device to school.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home. When students are free from distractions, they can better focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.
💜 Go Wildcats — focused and ready to learn!
Safety Protocols
New Transportation Badge System
Beginning this month, the PfISD Transportation Department will introduce a new Transportation Badge System for students who ride the school bus. This system is designed to make transportation even safer and more efficient for our Wildcats.
Students who ride the bus will receive a new ID badge from the transportation department. They will simply scan their badge when getting on and off the bus, allowing district staff to ensure students are always on the correct bus and helping families stay informed. This system helps prevent mix-ups and gives everyone greater peace of mind—nothing more, and nothing to worry about.
These new badges are multi-purpose, too! Students will be able to:
-
Access breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria
-
Check out books in the library
-
Wear the badge daily as part of our regular school ID expectations
If your child does not ride the bus, they will continue using their current school badge, and no changes are needed.
We appreciate your partnership as we roll out this helpful system that supports student safety and smooth daily routines for all.
Lunch Visits with Your Wildcat
We love seeing our Wildcat families join their students for lunch! Families are always welcome to bring outside food and enjoy lunch with their child at our picnic tables. These moments mean so much to our students, and we truly enjoy having our families here on campus.
If you would like to have lunch with your child, simply stop by the front office when you arrive. Our staff will call your student out of the cafeteria, and you can briefly sign them out and back in once lunch is finished. It’s a simple process, and a wonderful way to stay connected with your child during the school day.
We hope to see you at lunch soon!
Attendance Matters
Help your child perform at their highest level this year! 🏫✨
- Our Year to Date Attendance is 93.1.
- 6th Grade = 94.3%
- 7th Grade = 92.3.%
- 8th Grade = 92.6%
- Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school or in the afternoon so your child can be counted present.
- Every school day matters—just a few missed days can add up quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make every day count for your child’s success! 💙
Tardy Consequences
⏰ Tardy Update: Way to Go, Wildcats!
We’re proud to share that our students have been doing a much better job getting to class on time! Thank you to all of our families for supporting this effort — your partnership makes a big difference. When students arrive to class promptly, they are more engaged, prepared, and ready to learn from bell to bell.
While we’re celebrating this progress, please remember that we are still issuing consequences for excessive tardies according to our campus Tardy Consequence Ladder:
3Level 1 Warning 6Level 2 Warning 91 Day After-School Detention 122 Days After-School Detention + Parent Conference 15 or more1 Day of In-School Suspension (ISS)

Thank you for continuing to encourage your student to be on time every day. Every minute in class counts toward their success!
💜 Let’s keep up the great work, Wildcats!
