April 2026 Newsletter
A Message from Mr. Hartman
Greetings! We are now into our final trimester of the school year and before we know it, summer will be knocking on our door. With that being said, you will soon be receiving information about our upcoming summer school program. As always, we will offer a number of remediation and enrichment courses for students to take advantage of this coming summer, and we hope you consider enrolling your child.
As I think ahead to this month of April, I am hopeful that students will continue to be excited about coming to school each day, especially with warmer weather on the horizon. As a staff, we continue to meet regularly about student needs, and then make strategic plans to ensure high levels of learning. In some cases these meetings are about individual students, and in other cases they may pertain to a specific grade level or our student body as a whole. Regardless, our efforts are to ensure that students are getting the most out of their time with us here each and every day.
As we head into the final months of the school year, I continue to be impressed by the perseverance of our staff and students as they take on new challenges. Please encourage your child to continue giving his/her best effort through the last part of the school year. As always, if you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call us. Thank you for your support!
Kind Regards,
Josh Hartman, Principal

Upcoming classroom Guidance lessons in April will continue to be built around the Wisconsin Social Emotional Learning Competencies, specifically centered on the areas of Emotional Development (understanding and manage one’s emotions), Self-Concept (develop positive self-identity and recognize self as a learner) and Social Competence (establish and maintain positive relationships). In the next few weeks, we will focus our attention on social awareness. Specifically, students will be reflecting on and identifying similarities and differences among peers and building relationships between diverse groups of people (understanding diversity, prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, acceptance, etc.). 😊 Winston Churchill once said, “Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Celebrate it every day.” 👏
Our recent Food Drive was another successful event! BES donated several hundred pounds of non-perishable food items to the Bloomer Food Pantry! We also received donations to our BES Snack Cupboards. We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause. ❤️
During the week of April 13, our 3rd and 4th grade students will be participating in the Wisconsin Forward Exam. 🏫 The following link provides information for families regarding what this assessment entails. https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/assessment/pdf/Forward_Brochure_for_Families.pdf
Additionally, families can utilize the following tips to support their child as they prepare for the Forward Exam:
*Foster a calm environment, ensure healthy routines, and practice test content and format.
*Encourage consistent sleep, schedule nutritious meals (especially breakfast), minimize last-minute schedule changes, and encourage relaxation techniques to help manage anxiety.
*Review fundamentals of test taking like reading through test items, taking their time, etc.
*Calm the morning routine on test days by preparing materials, etc., the night before and leaving on time for the school day.
*Avoid putting undue pressure on results, focus instead on effort.
*Maintain a positive attitude as your anxiety about the test can transfer to your child.
The Counseling department offers many terrific resources for parents covering a wide

Featured resources this month include: The Self-Confident Child by Jean Yoder, MD, Hearing Is Believing: How Words Can Make Or Break Our Kids by Elisa Medhus, MD and Parents DO Make A Difference: How To Raise Kids With Solid Character, Strong Minds & Caring Hearts by Michele Borba, EdD. Please stop in and take a look! 🖤🧡🤍
On April 22, we honor Earth Day. There are several ways communities, classrooms and families will be recognizing this day. We can plant trees, pick up litter, reduce our energy use and much more! A motto commonly heard on Earth Day is, “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!” Let’s reduce television and video game time and increase family together time. Let’s reuse traditions and games from our childhood and teach our kids something new. Let’s recycle trash items, get creative and make a family project together! Happy Earth Day! 💙💚🩵 “The Earth is what we ALL have in common.” 🌎 ~Wendell Berry 😊
