Snyder Park Elementary
January 2024 Wildcat Newsletter
Message from Principal Sledge
In January, we have been focusing on Thinking Win-Win, which is Habit 4 of Leader in Me. We believe that everyone can make gains even when obstacles appear. As a school, I would like to challenge the Snyder Park family to Think Win-Win in our daily interactions. It is beneficial to all when we can have healthy conversations to find peaceful resolutions. Thinking Win-Win says, "It's not me or you- it is all of us!"
~W. Sledge, Principal

Leader in Me at Home
Leader In Me Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Think Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win. It’s not me or you- it is both of us. It is a belief that there are enough good things for everyone; it is an abundant way of thinking. Think Win-Win is being happy for others when good things happen to them. As a parent, not everything is negotiable, but if you go into discussions with your child with a win-win mindset, you’ll find a lot less resistance.
Some ways that you can practice this with your student are:
Play a game with your child(ren) that has a definite winner. Explain how competition is okay when you play a game, but it is not okay in relationships. Discuss how tense it would be in your home if every situation had to have a winner. A better way to think is win-win. This means we think of solutions that we can all feel good about when there is a problem. The more we Think Win-Win, the fewer problems there will be. You may want to display a chart listing the days of the week. When someone is “caught” thinking win-win, he or she gets to write his or her name on the chart for that day.
Encourage win-win solutions to sibling disputes. Don’t always be the mediator; let them work out a solution and be sure to lavish children with praise when they do.
Read Chapter 4 of The 7 Habits of Happy Kids book with your child and then complete the Parent’s Corner.

P.B.I.S.
Students receive PBIS points for being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. Students also receive PBIS points for attendance. Each month, classroom time is set aside for students to shop our online PBIS store where they are able to use their points to purchase items of their choice. Some items include bouncy balls, spinning bracelets, cotton candy, freshly popped popcorn, extra recess, high fives with Mr. Holliday, and fine dining. Our fine dining has received a 10/10 rating from our fourth grade students!
Our attendance data shows that we have the most absences on Monday's and Friday's. Please encourage your student to attend school each day and to be here on time. We will have another "Don't Be Tardy to the Party" dance on March 22nd! Your student will qualify to participate if they do not have any unexcused absences and no more than 2 unexcused tardies from February 1st- March 22nd.

Staff in the Spotlight
Our Librarian, Mrs. Greene is our staff in the spotlight!
Hi! I’m Joy Greene, the Librarian at Snyder Park. A bit about me: I’m married and a mom to three smart, rambunctious boys! I grew up in Springfield and graduated from Cedarville University. I enjoy reading, trying new things, shopping, decorating, and spending time with friends and family.
I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know the students this year. My goal is to make reading enjoyable by sharing a variety of books with them and allowing them to discover what they enjoy reading for themselves.
