Dear Holy Rosary Families,

We had a beautiful May Crowning Mass yesterday, highlighted by our 8th graders’ heartfelt Liturgical Dance. It was a truly fitting way to honor Mary during this month of May.

This past weekend, Father Phuong announced at Mass that Archbishop Etienne has appointed Father Marc Powell as our new Parochial Vicar, with Father Tim retiring at the end of June. Father Powell most recently served as Parochial Vicar at St. Charles Borromeo and St. Leo in Tacoma. Stay tuned for more information as we look forward to welcoming and getting to know Father Powell.

In Christ,

Anna

Counselor Out

Our counselor Kelly Dobelstein is on medical leave through mid-May. We are here to help in her absence. Students in grades K-5, please reach out to Miss Finney (vfinney@holyrosaryws.org). Students in grades 6-8, please reach out to Mr. Mohrbacher (tmohrbacher@holyrosaryws.org).

God's Knights: Dominic Savio

This week we celebrated the feast day of St. Dominic Savio who is a wonderful hero for young people today. He loved sports, made friends easily, and though he was observant of rules, Dominic was also quick to be silly and laugh often.

From his very first Holy Communion at age seven, Dominic wrote down four remarkable resolutions: to go to Confession and Communion as often as allowed, to sanctify Sundays and holy days in a special way, to make Jesus and Mary his friends — and to choose death before sin. He meant it and lived it. And at just 14 years old, he died in the arms of God, a young knight of the Kingdom.

St Dominic reminds us that holiness is possible at any age and that sainthood is not only for adults, priests, or religious — children and teens are called to holiness too!

Free Dress Reminders

New Community Events!

Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions in our New Community Events Poll! Vanessa Dunleavy and Kimberly Ta each have a credit at the Main Office towards a new Cadet Collar zip-up! Congratulations!

Used Uniforms

Closet bursting at the seams? Ours is. We’ve got an overstock of gently used uniforms looking for their next adventure—perfectly good pieces that deserve a second life instead of another day on the hanger. Think of it as a uniform treasure hunt where the price is right and the options are plenty.

If your wardrobe could use a refresh (or you just love a good find), Arlo is your guide to the good stuff. Reach out at arlowyn.i@gmail.com and she will help you track down your perfect uniform pieces before they disappear back into the closet abyss. Truth be told, we need the extra hangers!

Knowing that there is a great need in our community for before- and- after school care, we invite families to get on the BASE Wait List. Our hope is that there might be some movement over the next few months and BASE could accommodate some families who are still in need of care for the next school year.

Please complete the application form to get on the Waitlist: https://forms.gle/5EzSDL57X2EtFhcf7.

Parent Club 8th Grade Parent Award

It’s that time again!

We are now accepting nominations for the 2026 Parents Club Distinguished Service Award. This annual award recognizes a parent of a graduating 8th grader who has gone above and beyond in their dedication and service to Holy Rosary School.

It's a special way for fellow parents to honor someone whose exceptional contributions have helped make our school community stronger.

How to nominate:
Nominations should come from parents in the school community and be sent to the Parents Club President, Evan Soderquist, at evan.soderquist@gmail.com.

Deadline:
Please submit your nomination by 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 14th.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Holy Rosary so special!

May Is Bike To School Month!

It's time to dust off that bike, find missing helmets, and remember what the bike lock code is. All students are invited to participate by biking/walking/scooting/skipping to school during the entire month of May. Raffle prizes will be given out weekly to students that participate. Tracking calendars will be available at the Bike to School Month table on the north side of school starting Friday, May 1 (also attached for at home printing). Please note that bikes will be locked up at the racks between the school & playground.

What if I live too far away to bike? What if I take the bus to school?

When you get home, ride/scoot/walk for at least 15 minutes and it counts!

Have an adult sign off on your calendar and pick up a raffle ticket the next day.

We also need volunteers to help cheer on and count bikers/scooters/walkers, hand out raffle tickets, and help students lock their bikes up every morning throughout the month.

Sign up for one (or more!) days HERE.

Bike Bonanza At The West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day!

May is Bike to School Month, and we are expanding the celebration with a Bike Bonanza! On Saturday, May 9, HRS Parents’ Club is hosting a Bike Bonanza as part of the legendary West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, one of the biggest neighborhood sale events in Seattle with 570+ sales across the peninsula.

We are collecting up to 50 gently used bikes (kids' and adult sizes) from HRS families and selling them out front of the school. We'll have a numbered spot on the official WSCGSD map and listings guide, which gets promoted regionally and draws shoppers from all over. Unsold bikes will be donated to Bike Works, a Seattle nonprofit that refurbishes bikes for youth and families in need. We are excited to connect our school, parish, and neighborhood through this unique type of service event!

Here's how it works:

  • Donate a gently used bike in working order
  • Drop it off at the school hall on Friday, May 8 between 3pm and 6pm
  • We handle the rest on sale day!

Earn volunteer hours: Parents will receive 1 volunteer hour for every bike donated.

Own a Guardian Bike? This is a special opportunity through Guardian Bikes' donation program! If you donate a Guardian bike to a nonprofit (that's us!), you can receive a full refund of your original purchase. Donate your kid's outgrown Guardian bike to the Bike Bonanza, get a donation receipt from HRS, and Guardian refunds your money. Your old bike goes to a child in need, and you get your money back. Details at guardianbikes.com.

We also need volunteers to help with the Friday bike check-in (3pm to 6pm) and Saturday sales (9am to 3pm). 7th and 8th graders, this counts as service hours!

Click here to reserve a donation spot for your bike(s), or to sign up to volunteer.

Field Day Donations/Help Needed

Field day is Friday, May 22. If you have any of the following items you no longer need and would like to donate, please drop them off in the school office by Friday, May 1. -PVC pipe that is 1”-2” in diameter, approximately 5ft. (longer is okay, we can cut). -4 Pullover hoodies, sizes L/XL (old, do not need to be in great condition). We are also in need of volunteers on the event day. Survey Monkey sign-ups will be out shortly. Thank You!

Volunteer Hours Due May 31st

A reminder that volunteer hours must be submitted by May 31st under your Parent Portal account. Volunteer hours that are scheduled for June (Baccalaureate Dinner or 8th grade graduation as examples) can be estimated and submitted by the May 31st deadline. Incomplete volunteer hours will be charged ($50/hour) in June.

Crossing Guard Duty

Holy Rosary School is hiring for a before/after school crossing guard, to assist with crossing students in front of the school and in high traffic areas. Though the hours of this position are limited, it has the potential to have a large impact on student safety.
