MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Mitchell High School Families,

As we enter the week of November 16, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many reasons we have to celebrate and come together as a school community. This time of year brings opportunities for gratitude, engagement, and growth, both inside and outside the classroom. In this week’s newsletter, you’ll find important highlights, ways to get involved, and reminders to help our students finish the semester strong.

This week, we proudly honor the dedicated team members who serve as our Educational Support Personnel (ESP) and make Mitchell High School a welcoming and productive environment. I often refer to ESP as the skeleton of educational operations, because with its structure and support, every part of the school system can function effectively, within a safe, organized, and nurturing environment where students thrive socially, emotionally, and behaviorally, not just academically. To this day, I can remember my elementary custodian, Mr. Bobo. He was a consistent and quiet man who would often take the time to ask me and other students how our day was going while cleaning up after us in the lunchroom. He did so with humility and grace, and did an excellent job! Thank you to all of our ESP. Your efforts and commitment are appreciated and do not go unnoticed!

With only one week remaining before Thanksgiving Break, I encourage students to make the most of this time by focusing on their studies and striving to reach just a bit higher to improve their academic progress. Taking advantage of this week can help ensure a strong finish as we approach the end of the first semester on December 19. Parents and guardians, please check on your student's on-track for graduation progress, specifically, behavior, attendance, and grade/GPA (BAG) data by accessing the MyPowerHub portal.

Last week was filled with multiple opportunities to engage in campus activities, such as the Annual AFJROTC Veterans Day Ceremony and The Clumsy Custard Horror Show put on by our amazing Theatre Department and Thespians. If you attended either of these, you know how these events accentuated the talents of both our students and staff. To promote student engagement and foster a positive school climate, the Mitchell High School Student Council (STUCO) has organized Spirit Week! We invite all students and staff to join in the themes and showcase their school spirit as we enter the holiday season.

Finally, this is the last week to complete the 5Essentials Parent Survey, as the survey will close on November 20. We are so close to the 20% response rate needed to receive the parent survey report. Your feedback is essential in helping us strengthen our school's culture and climate. Research indicates that family engagement is associated with higher academic achievement, improved attendance, and better graduation rates. Please take a moment to participate at: https://survey.5-essentials.org/sd11/survey/parent.

Thank you for your partnership and commitment to Mitchell High School, where We Increase Numbers by believing in our Students-WINS!

About the 5Essentials System

The 5Essentials framework defines five key supports linked to student success:

• Effective Leaders

• Collaborative Teachers

• Ambitious Instruction

• Supportive Environment

• Involved Families

Schools strong in these essentials show higher student growth, attendance, and engagement.

Why the Parent Survey Matters

The 5Essentials Parent Survey gives families a voice in shaping stronger schools. Your feedback helps identify what’s working well and where schools can grow—supporting better teaching, leadership, and family partnerships.

Schools use the results to guide improvement plans, strengthen communication, and build more supportive learning environments for every student.

Research Impact

Schools strong on at least three of the five essentials are up to ten times more likely to improve student learning. Even small gains in these areas predict better outcomes over time.

COMPLETE TO WIN A $100 GIFT CARD

PARENTS, once you complete the Parent 5E survey, have your Mitchell student take a screen shot of the Completion.

Bring it into the Counseling office for Mrs. Torres to see and she will enter your name into a drawing for a $100 gift card!! Thank you for your time and Good Luck.

Dear Mitchell High School Families and Community,

As we move through the school year, we want to share some exciting updates and important reminders about how we’re supporting student success through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and our school-wide attendance initiative.

🌟 MTSS: Meeting Every Student Where They Are

At Mitchell High School, we believe every student deserves the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our MTSS framework helps us identify and address individual student needs through a tiered system of interventions. Whether a student needs academic help, social-emotional support, or behavioral guidance, MTSS ensures no one falls through the cracks.

We’re proud of the progress made in implementing MTSS strategies, and we continue to refine our practices to better serve our diverse learners.

💙 PBIS: Celebrating Positive Behavior & Core Values

Our PBIS program is all about recognizing and reinforcing the positive choices our students make every day. From showing respect and responsibility to demonstrating resilience, we’re building a culture where good behavior is celebrated and encouraged.

Students who consistently demonstrate these values will be recognized and celebrated throughout the year.

To honor their efforts, we’re hosting a PBIS Drawing on Monday, November 17! Students who’ve shown outstanding commitment to our core values will be entered into a drawing for fun prizes and recognition. It’s our way of saying “thank you” for helping make Mitchell a safe, respectful, and welcoming place for all.

📅 Attendance Matters: Striving for 92%

Did you know that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically and socially? That’s why we’ve set a school-wide attendance goal of 92%. Every day counts, and we need your help to make it happen!

Here’s how you can support your student’s attendance:

  • Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible.
  • Encourage your student to attend every day, even when they’re feeling a little tired.
  • Stay in communication with our attendance office if your student needs to be out.

Together, we can ensure our students are present, engaged, and ready to learn.

🙌 Thank You for Your Support

We appreciate your partnership in helping Mitchell High School be a place where every student can succeed. Let’s keep the momentum going as we head into the holiday season.
