Principal's Message
Welcome Back, Patriot Families!
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! I am incredibly excited to welcome back our returning Patriots and greet the new families joining our community for the first time.
At Berkmar Middle School, we are committed to being a place where every student belongs, every voice matters, and everyone is supported to do their best.
Our theme this year is Focus Forward: Destination Learning. For our students, this means keeping our eyes on the future and treating every day as a step toward success. This year, we will look ahead and learn from every challenge. We will set clear goals and work hard to reach them. Finally, we will support each other as a team so every Patriot succeeds.
Success doesn’t happen by accident. It takes commitment, teamwork, and daily effort. We are moving forward with purpose, and our destination is excellence.
Here are the key dates and details you need to start the year strong:
Schedules: Available in the Parent Portal on Monday, July 27th.
Open House: Friday July 31st. (Please arrive during your assigned time to help with parking).
6th Graders: Your schedules are ready, thanks to our teamwork with Hopkins and Minor Elementary. No action needed!
7th & 8th Graders: No further registration is required.
At Open House, you can meet teachers, find classrooms, drop off school supplies, visit the clinic, and get bus information. We can't wait to see you soon and kick off an amazing year of learning and growing together.
We are Patriots. And together, we Focus Forward!
Warm Regards,
Felecia C. Jones

Berkmar Middle is a Power Down School
One of the integral parts of creating a harmonious and distraction-free learning space is our "Power Down" electronic device (cell phones, airpods, headphones, etc.) policy. We understand the importance of technology and staying connected in our modern world. However, during school hours, the focus should be on learning, collaborating, and being present.
Should there be an emergency or an urgent concern to communicate with your child, please reach out to the school's main office. We will ensure your child receives the message promptly.

Communication: Addressing Concerns at School
Communication: Addressing Concerns at School
GCPS encourages families to follow these steps to resolve concerns:
1. Teacher - First, talk to your child’s teacher or a counselor at school for assistance. Most concerns are resolved at the classroom level.
2. Assistant Principal - If the concern is not resolved at the classroom level, please visit with your child’s assistant principal.
3. Principal - If working with the AP does not adequately address the issue, please meet with the school principal.
4. Cluster Superintendent - If the issue persists, please call 678-301-6000, and ask to speak to the cluster superintendent who is assigned to the school your child attends.
5. Chief of Schools - If, after following steps one through four, your concern has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please contact the Chief of Schools for School Improvement and Operations.
Other Resources
If you are experiencing an emergency, dial 9-1-1. The GCPS Hotline for anonymous reporting of potential violence is 770-822-6513. If you have a non-emergency criminal concern, please contact local law enforcement.
