Unified Arts
Hands on learning that's fun!
3D Art - Ms. Yandell and Ms. Gerwig
7th Grade — Large-Scale Paper Mâché Objects
So many 7th graders have been looking forward to this project since 5th grade! Inspired by the large everyday-object sculptures of Claus Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen, students worked collaboratively to plan and build iconic oversized pieces using cardboard and paper mâché. From Old Spice Swagger to Takis, their enthusiasm, hard work, and imagination exceeded expectations!6th Grade — Medieval Celestial Imagery & Metal Tooling
Sixth graders explored medieval imagery and practiced metal tooling techniques. Their artwork showed interest in the subject matter, attention to detail, and an enjoyment of this fun and unusual medium!5th Grade — Pop Art Food Projects
Fifth graders completed a fun and exciting Pop Art Food Art unit! Projects ranged from sushi to Starbucks — each one making a strong connection to the creative and technical process!
Studio Art - Ms. Carswell & Ms. Gerwig
In Studio Art, fifth-grade students recently completed their Charley Harper–inspired paper collage projects. Students worked through multiple steps, including painting their own papers, creating stencils of wildlife and nature, and thoughtfully assembling each element into a final composition.
Sixth-grade students have been working incredibly hard to apply their technical and digital skills by creating a digital mosaic of their favorite food or beverage. This project challenged them to think about color, shape, and composition while exploring digital art tools.
Finally, seventh graders are wrapping up their animal eye drawings. This project is especially challenging, as it asks students to closely observe an animal’s eye and draw exactly what they see. Using charcoal pencils and oil pastels, students focused on blending, texture, and detail to create realistic and expressive results.
Physical Education / Wellness - Mrs. Agreste, Mr. Guillerault, Mr. Millett
In Physical Education, as the semester draws to a close, reflection is in order. It was rewarding to look at our 4 board and remember all the instances of students exceeding expectations in respect, responsibility, and perseverance. Further reflection highlights the outstanding sportsmanship, kindness, and acceptance exhibited by students across all classes. What a remarkable semester and effort by our BMS students! Kudos!!
We wrapped up conflict resolution and have begun our Tiger Pride unit where students learn exactly what having Tiger Pride means. They are taking what they learn in health class and demonstrating this in gym class by learning how to be responsible using different types of equipment like scooters and jump ropes. They are doing a fantastic job taking care of the equipment, picking up the equipment at the end of class, and having fun while doing it. They are quickly learning that when you take care of your environment, your environment quickly becomes a positive place to be!
Statistics and Research Through Sport - Mr. Arsenault
Students have developed their skills in multiplication and statistics. Most recently,
students made projections based on data they collected throughout the year. We will be
wrapping up our class with some fun games and activities to close out the semester.
Financial Literacy - Mrs. Brittain
It has been a busy end of the semester! We have been trying to cover what we can with the time we have left. Many students are leaving with excitement around the potential of getting a work permit within the next year. We spent some time discussing taxes and why we pay them as well as looking at a W-4 form and practicing filling one out. Do you check your paystubs frequently? We brainstormed possible reasons why this should be done and spent some time identifying the parts of a paystub and what they mean.
I am really proud of the students in Financial Literacy this semester. We had many great discussions sparked by insightful questions. Overall the students showed a genuine interest in the content and a desire to learn more!
Social Studies - Mrs. Hatt
In World History for the 6th graders, we have just started our first few lessons on Ancient Egypt. During this unit we will begin to explore the origins of the pyramids, the structure of their society, their myths, and the greater impact they had on human civilization and history. As we explore these concepts, we will continue to work on note taking, map reading skills, vocab, and historical writing skills.
In 7th grade current events we are focusing on geography. Our first unit is looking at the geography of North & South America. We will specifically look at the physical geography of different countries, human impact on their environments, and looking at how different countries interact with one another. The major skills we will be developing are writing and map skills.
In Financial Literacy for 7th graders, we are winding down for the semester. Before winter break we completed a project where students looked at future careers and developed monthly budgets around the salaries of those jobs. Following this, we will be looking at how banks function, how to use online banking apps, and how the stock market works. The major skills we will be focusing on before the end of the semester are note taking, critical thinking, and financial planning.
Chorus, Music Theater & General Music - Ms. Guiney
We had a lot to celebrate at the end of December. Over two hundred choral students participated in Wreaths Across America. The Fifth Grade Chorus performed two song celebrating our veterans, and our Sixth and Seventh Grade Chorus sang two patriotic songs as part of the celebration. Later in the week chorus students assembled for an evening Winter Concert. The concert was filled with family and friends and students performed beautifully.
Looking forward to starting next week with many new students joining old friends in music, chorus and theater classes.
World Languages - Mr. Weeks
In the 7th Grade, we have been wrapping up our semester in French by learning vocabulary about our families and how to introduce our different family members. We are also preparing for our next semester in Spanish by learning how to use two-way dictionaries to find vocabulary words. In the 6th grade we are wrapping up our Spanish unit by learning how to say the date and time and talk about our birthdays. We built calendars for our birthday months and practiced asking questions in Spanish. In the 5th grade, we are wrapping up our semester by learning the geography of Central and South America.
