Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Teacher at DCS Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Teacher at DCS

Hello families, this week has whizzed by! One of my favorite parts of the day is our morning arrival. Students are either dropped off or disembark the bus and gather outside for a morning recess time. We line up around 8:35 am to say the Pledge of Allegiance and to sing songs. This time of year we are singing our school song as well as learning to sign along. Please see the words to our song above. We are deep into the fall benchmark assessments and are excitedly looking at the results. We will continue to test next week and hope to finish by the end of the week. Students are working hard to show what they know. In the midst of all of this we had lots of other activities going on. Some of the highlights this week were Health/Wellness with Mrs. Parker, Cornucopia, Grades 3-5 walked up the hill to the Library, and Police Chief Suokko and Brittney Redler were guest readers for Grades K-2. We are looking forward to having you join for our first Community Lunch on Friday, September 27th at 12:00pm. Please bring lunch and enjoy some time together if you are able. After lunch, I will be available for conversation. We are busy planning for the Harvest Supper and Open House on Wednesday, October 9th from 5:30-7 pm. More information will be following. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Nicole

Meet Mrs. Fletcher Meet Mrs. Fletcher

Hi! I’m Heather Fletcher and I’m teaching grades 1 and 2 this year. I’ve been teaching 17 years, and this is my 6th year at DCS. I love teaching in the same town where I have lived for 26 years. My husband and I have three children, Andrew (22), Emily (20), and Samantha (16). We have 3 Labradors and one cat. I love kids, dogs, families, gardening, and Dublin Lake! I have a passion to teach children to read, especially those that may struggle, so I’m working on an extra graduate certificate in Dyslexia which I will finish in December! I love teaching at DCS with my colleagues and the close-knit community of families. I love engaging community members and having them join in our special school!

Reminder about Pick Up Patrol (PUP) Reminder about Pick Up Patrol (PUP)

Please be sure to enter any changes into PUP prior to 3pm. Dismissal is a busy time and it is important we know where each students is going after school. We know last minute things occur and we understand that, but if you know in advance of changes, please put the change in PUP. Thank you!

New this Year-Monthly Community Lunches New this Year-Monthly Community Lunches

DCS has a strong connection to our community, and we continue to explore ways to connect in different meaningful ways. This year we invite members of our community to join us for lunch on the last Friday of the Month from 12:00-12:30pm. After lunch from 12:30-1 pm, I offer the opportunity to engage in conversation. I look forward to seeing you on September 27th for our first lunch.

The Importance of Attendance The Importance of Attendance

We know how important attendance is to student success at school. There are District Policies and procedures that guide responsibility with regard to attendance. As part of this, I monitor absences and last year DCS had a large number of students with more than average absences. Many of the absences are due to illness over which there is little control. Please consider taking family vacations when school is not in session. Thank you for your help with reducing the high number of absences at DCS.

DCS Cares about Recycling! DCS Cares about Recycling!

Did you know that DCS has been recycling clean plastic bags since 2022? Even more exciting is that we have recycled 683 pounds of plastic since this program started! That is about the same as a zebra, motorcycle, or baby grand piano weighs! That is amazing! Thanks so much to Mrs. Hopkins for bringing this program to DCS! Please bring clean plastic grocery bags, bread bags, or pellet bags to school.

DCS also collects aluminum tabs to be donated to Shriners Hospital which designs and creates prosthetics. Please bring your aluminum tabs to DCS, there is a collection container in the lobby.
