Class of 2028 Fall Edition
Byron High School Options
Byron may be a small school, but our students have many options to expand their education - both in our school as well as though partnership opportunities. In the coming months, the Class of 2028 will be learning about some of those options. We tell the students, "your schedule is what you make it. As long as you've met, and are meeting, the graduation requirements, you may apply to one of these programs to explore that path further and/or to gain experience in that field."
10th Grade Career Pathways Expo
On October 21, we will be taking the entire sophomore class over to the Shiawassee College & Career Readiness center in Vernon. Students are being giving the choice to learn more about skilled trades or about public service career fields. They will be learning about the programs our county offers: electrical, health science academy, heavy equipment, public safety, teaching cadet, and welding. Students have the ability to earn certification and credentials through many of the county programs.
Students that are interested in applying to one of the programs must have a 2.0 GPA or higher. Applications will open October 21 and will close February 27.
Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment is when high school students earn college credits. Students will also be learning about these opportunities at the Career Pathways Expo. Shiawassee County has partnerships with Mott Community College, Lansing Community College and Baker College of Owosso. Byron has its own partnership with University of Michigan Flint.
Early College gives students an additional year of high school to earn college credits. Students in that program take a full schedule of college classes in their 5th year for free or at a greatly reduced cost. Interested students MUST apply to be an Early College student NO LATER than the end of the 10th grade.
Save the Dates
The CCRC will be hosting CTE/DE/EC Family Info Nights on January 15, 2026 and February 10, 2026. Both evenings will begin at 6 pm. Families are welcome to attend to learn more about the Career & Technical Education (CTE), Dual Enrollment (DE) and Early College (EC) programs available.
Make sure you put these dates on your calendars!
