Campion College Newsletter
Week Two, Term Four: 19 October - 25 October 2026
KARAKIA
E te Atua,
As we head into this long weekend,
we give thanks for the gift of rest and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Bless those who are travelling, keep everyone safe,
and help us to find moments of peace and joy in the days ahead.
May we return refreshed, grateful and ready for the weeks ahead.
Amene
A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tēnā koutou parents, students, staff, and whānau,
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Week 2 of Term 4! This is always a busy time of year, with much to celebrate, plenty still to achieve, and preparations for the coming year well underway.
One of the things I have particularly enjoyed over the past fortnight has been the opportunity to connect with so many members of our College community through our strategic planning consultation. Hearing the hopes and aspirations that our whānau, students and staff have for Campion has been both valuable and affirming. What has struck me most is just how much we have in common when it comes to what we want for our young people. These conversations have reinforced for me the importance of continuing to build a College where every student feels they belong, is challenged to achieve their best, and is supported to grow as a person.
Earlier this week, our senior students' school examination results were emailed to parents and caregivers. I encourage students and whānau to take some time to look through these together. These results provide a useful indication of where students are currently at in their learning, but they are certainly not the final word on what they can achieve. There is still time to make improvements, consolidate understanding and build confidence ahead of the external examinations. I encourage students to use the feedback they have received to identify where they need to focus their efforts over the coming weeks. If you have questions about results, would like some advice on effective study strategies, or are unsure where to begin, please reach out to your subject teachers or Learning Mentors. They are there to help, and we want every student to feel well prepared.
Looking ahead to 2027, we are delighted to be receiving strong enrolment numbers for next year. As we work through class placements and staffing, it is important that we have an accurate picture of our expected roll. If your family is planning to leave the district, or you know that your child will not be returning to Campion College next year, I would really appreciate you letting our College Office know as soon as possible. This helps us plan effectively and offer places to families who are currently on our waiting list.
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, I encourage our students to keep making the most of every opportunity, to support one another and to finish the year with the same commitment and care that we value so highly at Campion College.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our College.
Yours in Christ,
Karyn Sadler
Tumuaki - Principal

YOU LOOK A LITTLE FAMILIAR...
Our Year 13 students took the opportunity to channel their inner teachers this week, dressing up as some of their favourite Campion staff members!
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that was certainly true this week as our students arrived at school looking remarkably like some very familiar faces! From clothing choices to mannerisms, the attention to detail was impressive and provided plenty of laughs throughout the College.
It was wonderful to see our Year 13 students having a bit of fun and making the most of their final weeks at Campion. A great way to create some lasting memories before they head off on their next adventures!

WELL DONE, LUCY!
Year 12 student Lucy Hands has made a wonderful contribution to our local community through her photography. Commissioned by Gisborne District Council Sister Cities, Lucy captured the beautiful scenery, vibrant community life and unique character of Tairāwhiti Gisborne in a stunning promotional brochure. Her beautifully crafted brochure will be used by Gisborne District Council Sister Cities to promote our region and will be presented as a gift to sister cities around the world, sharing the beauty of Tairāwhiti with an international audience.
On Friday, Lucy received a thank-you card and a $50 voucher in recognition of her hard work and dedication. The presentation was made by Jan Calder, Secretary and Treasurer of Gisborne District Council Sister Cities. Lucy worked hard to bring this project to life, demonstrating creativity, commitment and a strong sense of community service. Her achievement is a wonderful example of the talent, initiative and community spirit that Campion College students bring to our wider community.
Ka pai, Lucy! We are proud of your achievement and the positive contribution you have made to Tairāwhiti.

HANDS ON LEARNING
Our classes with a practical focus continue to provide students with some fantastic hands-on learning opportunities! Kapa haka is going strong, ably led by our talented students, while our budding MasterChefs have been busy in the cooking room creating delicious cottage pies to donate to the St Vincent de Paul Society. Meanwhile, in the woodwork room, a range of exciting individual projects are nearing completion. It is wonderful to see our students developing their skills, following their interests and giving back to our community.
