October was a blur! We continued to celebrate our Superheroes, we had an overwhelming number of PAWSitive RUFFerals, we started fall clubs, and we ended the quarter! We are so proud of all that our Bulldogs have achieved in Quarter 1 and can't wait to see what they conquer in Quarter 2.

Arbutus Elementary School is committed to create a caring and inclusive community that sets high expectations for all, nurturing the whole child through robust academics, meaningful relationships, and inspiring students to reach their highest potential.

Partner Spotlight

Baltimore Hunger Project has partnered with us for the past three years and we are so grateful for their help. Every week, we receive 15 weekend meals for our students facing food insecurity. BHP is in 66 schools and provides about 2,600 meals every week across the city and county. Not only do they provide weekend meals, they provide birthday kits, feminine hygiene supplies, winter coats, and holiday meals. They also help us keep our food pantry stocked.

2025 by the numbers:

  • 2,600 children received weekend meals
  • 248,900 weekend meals were distributed
  • 52,000 pounds of food supported 37 food pantries
  • 46,080 snack bags were provided to schools
  • 23,425 loaves of bread were provided to families enrolled in weekend meal program
  • 5,410 winter coats, hats and gloves were distributed
  • 2,006 birthday kits were supplied to families

If you're interested in supporting one of our amazing partners, they are always looking for volunteers to help pack, donations of food, or monetary donations that go towards the food bags. Please reach out to Ms. Zalucki for more details.

Notes From the Staff Notes From the Staff

Please be sure to label backpacks, lunchboxes, jackets, etc. with first AND last names!

Please remember to check to make sure your child is dressed properly. ( Hats, gloves. winter coat.) The children do have recess unless the weather is extreme. If your child comes home missing any items sent into school, please check out our Lost and Found. It is growing daily!

Mrs. Olsen

If your family is going through a difficult time, I’m here to support your child at school. You don’t need to explain anything. If your child had a tough night, morning, or weekend, simply message me: β€œHandle with care.” That lets me know your child may need a little extra patience, kindness, support, or love during the school day. You can call me at 443-809-8116, send a message with Talking Points, or email me at solsen@bcps.org.

Ms. Zalucki

We are changing up our Turkey Trot this year! This year, family members, friends, and community members can sponsor a student to run! The money raised this year will go towards our Holiday Help provided to families going through hard times this holiday season.

How: Through the PTA Givebacks Page, you can register your student and set a fundraising goal. You can share out their personalized link to help them earn money. The winning class may even get a pizza party!
