Eye on the Tigers

Good afternoon, OGHS Parents! I hope this 3-day weekend has done a little bit to recharge your batteries and get you ready for the next few weeks ahead. It doesn't seem possible, but there are only 5 weeks of school remaining before we take 1st semester exams! Now is the time to start looking closely at those grades... make up any missing assignments, study a little bit harder, and tighten your focus on any areas where you are struggling.

Progress reports will come out on Thursday this week. Please look over those and contact the teacher if you have any concerns. The administrators will be looking at grades as well and will begin setting up conferences with parents for students who are in danger of failing the semester. But don't wait on us! If you see that your student is falling behind, you can set a conference up with the teacher yourself. Email the teacher or call the office to speak with a staff member.

As we enter November later this week, our hearts often turn to gratitude and thankfulness for all that we have. We are surely blessed more than so many around us. I encourage you to think of others as we go through this next month and help those who may be struggling in some way right now. As always, I'm so appreciative of all of you, and I'm so happy to be at OGHS!

Congratulations to Collin Pate for his selection as the AL.com Hollis Wright Player of the Week this week! We wish him and all our football players continued success as their season continues!

Congratulations to the Oak Grove High School Marching Band & Tigerettes for winning their 5th state championship!! Yesterday at JSU the band won Outstanding Guard, Outstanding Percussion, Outstanding Music, and Outstanding Visuals & General Effects! We are so proud of our band!

Congratulations to Mrs. Wilkins for receiving the CBS42 One Class at a Time grant! Mrs. Wilkins is raising money to bring an author in to speak to our students in the spring. This $1000 is a good start, but's it's only a small part of what she will need. If you or a business that you know of would like to contribute, please contact her at bwilkins@jefcoed.com

Parents - Please be sure that your child's lunch account has enough money to cover their meals. We have over 150 accounts that are currently holding a negative balance.

Do you have some old shoes lying around the house... they're too good to throw away but you no longer wear them? We can help with that! Baseball is starting a shoe drive, and there will be collection boxes at the football game Friday night. Please bring in your donations, and we will get them to a group that will distribute them to those in need in our community.
