A word from Mrs. Kablan

Hello Handley Students & Parents,

Welcome to the 2020- 2021 school year! I hope you had a great summer.

I am honored and excited to be the newly appointed Principal of John Handley High School. Leading a school such as John Handley High School with its remarkable history and rich tradition is a wonderful opportunity to combine pride and tradition along with providing a 21st century comprehensive learning experience for all students.

I am a firm believer in high quality instruction, students’ academic and social well being, and the importance of community engagement to maximize students achievement and success. I believe in exploring innovative ideas to meet the emerging needs of all students while continuing the legacy of John Handley High School.

Along with the talented and dedicated faculty, I will be focusing on empowering students and working hard to serve every child, every day, doing whatever it takes to ensure that every student is college and career ready!

While I value face-to-face interaction with students and parents and welcome any opportunity to meet with you, I will be utilizing our technology to provide you with clear and consistent communication through our weekly newsletter.

I look forward to our collaboration to create a positive and safe educational environment where all students can achieve success.

Parking Pass information will be coming soon. Just a quick reminder:

• Parking passes cost $25 dollars

• You have to have a valid driver's license and car insurance

Senior Pictures will be taken on August 17 and August 18. Due to safety concerns during the COVID-19 crisis, they will no longer be mailing appointment notices home. It is safer to communicate with everyone through email and allows them to control the number of appointments throughout the day. Victor O’Neill Studios is reducing the number of appointments by 50% compared to previous years.

Therefore, instead of pre-assigning a date and time for your senior portrait, they are offering you the opportunity to select your date and time through a new scheduling software. An email was sent out to Seniors to select an appointment time. If you have not done so, please have your student check their school email.

If you are participating in distance learning this semester and are signed up to take a class with Handley that is a dual enrollment course you will be eligible to dual enroll in the class with LFCC if you meet the requirements.

*Courses taken on Virtual VA are not eligible for Dual Enrollment*

Registration Process: Fall 2020

* Dual Enrollment forms for the Fall Semester will be mailed home to students the week of

August 24th.

* Included with the forms will be a letter to students and parents that outlines the registration process for this upcoming semester.

* Ms. Tilling, our Career Coach, will be sitting curbside at Handley on dates and times during the last week of August as listed in the letter to be available to students who need to ask any questions and to collect registration forms and money. Since we have many students

participating in distance learning, this will allow you to turn in the paperwork and money for

the classes.

* Ms. Tilling will have makeup dates in early September for students who did not attend in

August.
