Important End of the School Year Reminders:

· Please encourage your child(ren) to continue to put forth their best efforts and work hard through the last day of school.

· Please remind children of appropriate behaviors and expectations at school, including the classroom, bathrooms, hallways, recess, cafeteria, bus, etc.

· As the weather becomes warmer, please ensure that students dress safely and appropriately. Flip-flops, open-toed shoes are not permitted as they do not protect the feet from potential injury.

· Please be sure that shorts and tops are appropriate in length.

· Please review June’s P.R.I.D.E. focus with your child(ren): “Encourage Others.” Showing respect to others at all times is a good way to ensure this.

· Please remain aware of your child(ren)’s online and phone activity. Surfing the Web as well as group-chats can be fun, but they can also be a problem if they are not monitored appropriately.

· As always, we appreciate the support and follow-through by the families of our students! It truly is a team effort, and we appreciate your assistance! Thank you!

Parents/Guardians: Reminder - enjoy some family time

Family Activities

With so much going on in our daily lives, it sometimes becomes necessary to just stop, reevaluate, and plan time to spend together as a family! “Time” is what’s important, not massive planning or taking expensive trips. Most often, family activities can be planned that are enjoyable for the entire family, easy to plan, and cost little.

Perhaps choose a day (or a couple of hours), and consider some of the following suggested ideas:

· Pack a lunch and visit a local park.

· Take a bike ride around the neighborhood.

· Visit the local library and share interest in books.

· Visit historical sites and landmarks.

· Fly a kite.

· Play a board game.

· Start a new project or hobby.

· Read with your child.

· Visit relatives.

Summer is a time for fun and relaxation! There are numerous activities that can be planned to help promote quality time together as a family. The options are many! Enjoy time together!

Technology

Internet/Computer Safety

Technology in its various forms can be effective in promoting learning in both school and home. As technology use has increased to date, it is important that parents/guardians be aware of the amount of time spent on technology as well as what sites and/or activities children access by way of technology. As we all know, technology allows access to a large amount of information. Technology also allows people an opportunity to communicate with almost anyone and anywhere. Please be sure to discuss computer/phone/Internet safety with your child(ren), and be sure to monitor your child(ren)’s use of technology.

Tips - Child Safety

Child Safety

The safety and well-being of children is a priority for sure! Parents/Guardians can make a positive impact by sharing basic safety rules with their children. Below are some suggestions that may be helpful:

· Make sure that children know their telephone number, address, and how to dial emergency numbers, etc.

· Know where your children are at all times.

· Teach children to avoid strangers.

· Know your child’s friends.

· Never swim without an adult.

· Look both ways when crossing a street.

· Wear helmets and safety gear when bike riding, skating, etc.

· Listen to your child’s fears and concerns.

· Monitor your child’s use of technology/social media/cellphone, etc.

These are just some suggestions that we hope are helpful in keeping your child safe in the summer and always. Please review safety with your children.

Summer Reading

Summer Reading

Summer vacation is a wonderful time for relaxation, but it can also be a time for continued learning. Building some form of reading activity into a child’s summer schedule may be helpful to promote ongoing learning. Here are some suggestions to encourage children to participate in summer reading.

· READ TO YOUR CHILD: Take a few minutes each day to read or share a book with your child.

· BE A READER: Children imitate what they see. You can set a good example for your child by reading.

· VISIT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY: A library is an inexpensive way to find good books for your child to enjoy, and many libraries even have summer reading programs as well!

· FIND BOOKS THAT WILL BE ENJOYABLE: Spend time with your child discovering books that will be of interest to him/her.

· MAKE READING FUN: Reading should be a relaxing time for your child. Encourage your child to read for pleasure. Don’t expect your child to read for hours at a time. Even just reading for 15 minutes daily can help maintain a child’s reading skills.

· READ AS A FAMILY: Set aside a time each day for the family to read together.

· READ MORE THAN BOOKS: Appropriate magazines and newspapers can provide good reading materials also. Not only will your child find it interesting, but he/she will become used to reading other forms of the written word.

May your child’s summer reading activities lead to the enjoyment of year-round reading! Help keep that reading light burn.
