FCPS Community Bulletin Board
December 4, 2025
Superintendent’s Message
As we enter this season of giving, I am reminded once again that FCPS is a community far beyond the classroom. Every day, our students and staff find meaningful ways to support others and this month, those efforts have been especially visible.
I am incredibly proud to share that the students of Brunswick Elementary collected nearly 4,000 food items for the Brunswick Food Bank during November. This single food drive sustained the food bank during a difficult month, allowing them to provide food and toiletries to more than 40 families facing challenging times.
At Tuscarora High, the varsity boys soccer team completed their sixth annual “Goals for Gals” fundraiser, scoring 19 varsity goals and raising $2,570 for the Hurwitz Fund through the Pink Ribbon Frederick organization. This brings their total contributions to $14,552, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects years of dedication to supporting local women facing breast cancer.
Each year, Gov. Thomas Johnson High School extends support to families who may need a little extra help during the holiday season. Holiday assistance applications were accepted from November 21 to 30.
The Urbana High Spanish Honors Society is holding a holiday toy drive December 1-15 and the Frederick High School PTSA is participating in their 16th annual Care for Kids campaign. Through December 5, hygiene items, household supplies, food and gift cards will be collected for FHS students in need.
These are just a few examples of our students and staff working to uplift the community.
We’re also looking forward to several community events coming this month to celebrate the season. Many of our schools host seasonal events this month that are fun for the whole family. Be on the lookout for them. They are happening throughout the month!
FCPS marching bands will take part in the Kris Kringle Procession, a cherished Frederick City tradition beginning at South Carroll and East Patrick streets and ending in Baker Park with the lighting of the City Tree on December 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Thank you to every student, staff member, family, and community partner who continues to make FCPS a place defined by generosity and cheer.
Thank you,
Dr. Dyson
Elementary Students Collect Items to Support the Brunswick Food Bank
The students of Brunswick Elementary School collected almost 4,000 food items to support the Brunswick Food Bank during the month of November. A representative from Beacon shared that the food drive at BES sustained the food bank during this difficult month. Over 40 families were provided with food and toiletries during the recent difficult times. We are so proud of our students for their kindness and compassion toward others. We see this every day at school, but during this special time, the whole community got to see their hearts in action.
