Principal's Message - Building Excellence Together

Dear Mary M. Knight Families,

What an exciting week ahead! Our Owl community is buzzing with spirit, learning, and opportunity. This week, we're embracing our core values of Welcoming, Ownership, and Leadership through our annual Spirit Week and upcoming events that showcase the incredible talents and character of our students.

I'm particularly inspired by our Spirit Week, which runs from October 20-24. This is more than just fun dress-up days – it's an opportunity for our students to express creativity, build community, and demonstrate the unity that makes Mary M. Knight special. From Cozy Pajama Day to the creative "Rhyme Without a Reason" day, we're celebrating the unique personalities that make our school vibrant.

Our Homecoming weekend is a highlight, with our football team taking on Lake Quinault on Saturday at 1:00 PM. This is more than just a game – it's a celebration of teamwork, school pride, and the supportive community we've built together. I encourage all families to come out and cheer on our Owls!

Don't forget about our upcoming Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 29-30. These are crucial opportunities to connect, discuss your child's progress, and work together to support their educational journey. PK-6 families will need to schedule online, and we're offering both afternoon and evening slots to accommodate your schedules.

We've also launched our new Rooms communication platform, designed to keep you connected with your child's teachers more easily than ever. I encourage all families to check their email and complete the registration process.

As we continue to live our mission of ensuring all students have the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to be successful citizens, I'm grateful for the incredible community we've built together.

Keep soaring, Owls!

GRIT Award Winners - Week ofOctober 13, 2025

Celebrating OWL Values: Welcoming, Ownership, Leadership

Dear Mary M. Knight Community,

Each week, we take a moment to recognize the extraordinary individuals who embody our core values and demonstrate true GRIT. This week, we're proud to highlight students and staff who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to learning, growth, and community.

Student Highlights:

High School Leadership

  • Brooke Mirka and Carissa Reeves (12th Grade) showed exceptional leadership by welcoming a new student during lunch. What may have seemed like a simple basketball game was actually a powerful moment of inclusion, ensuring a new community member felt welcomed and that they belong at MMK.

Perseverance and Self-Advocacy

  • Allyiah Wood (10th Grade) demonstrated remarkable maturity by taking ownership of her learning. She advocated for her educational needs and worked diligently to improve her grades, proving that determination makes all the difference.

Elementary Excellence

  • Dominic Franco (1st Grade) shows remarkable ownership of his learning. When he finishes his work, he doesn't wait to be told what to do - he proactively grabs a book and starts reading.
  • Bailee Mock and Cloie Kitchell (4th Grade) exemplify resilience. They approach learning with positivity, carefully checking their work, asking insightful questions, and embracing feedback with enthusiasm.

Focus and Determination

  • Lucas Vogland (5th Grade) and Haiden Franco (2nd Grade) showcased incredible focus, completing their writing folders with determination and efficiency.

Community Spirit

  • Sunny Baughman (2nd Grade) demonstrated our culture of continuous improvement by voluntarily helping to clean up the library.

Early Learning Ownership

  • Lucas Frostad (Kindergarten) is already modeling ownership, consistently fixing mistakes and maintaining a persistent effort.

Staff and Community Recognition

A special shout-out to Mrs. Guelzo, a parent who went above and beyond by volunteering in our Preschool. Her willingness to support our educational community during a challenging time reflects the true spirit of teamwork.

We also want to recognize Mrs. Jewett, whose dedication shines through even on challenging days, always striving to provide the best for our students.

Reflections on GRIT

At Mary M. Knight, we believe that GRIT isn't just about academic achievement. It's about growing, supporting each other, and continuously improving. Each of these individuals shows us what it means to be a true Owl - Welcomed, Owning our actions, and Leading by example.

Keep soaring, Owls!
