Our first few weeks back have been amazing. Fernbrook Flyers you are SOARing!

We had our first all-school assembly last week and wow do our Flyers have school spirit! You'll have to ask your Flyer which grade was the loudest... We decided it was a tie 😁💚💙

Hey Flyer Nation!!!

We are fully underway now 😊 Reading and math screener assessments have started. These screeners help us get a snapshot of where each Flyer is in their math and literacy development. They also help drive who may need some extra boosts in one or more of those classes. The theme I repeat week in and week out at Fernbrook is that everyone is working to grow as a reader, a writer, a mathematician, and a good human…and we are well on our way! But don’t worry, we aren’t all work and no play 😉 We had an amazing first week of school with one of the best all school assemblies I’ve been a part of. When these Flyers let you know that Fernbrook Rocks…they really let you know!! Also, Fun Run season is upon us, color team pride is in full swing, and teams are all already intent on being the crew to slime Mr. Z.

I want to thank my parent/guardian community as well for such a smooth start. From drop off to pick up, to 5th grade fams getting into the swing of getting safety patrol kids here, to our amazing PTO organizing so many things…couldn’t do it without you. Have a great year!!!

Fernbrook Fall Conferences are coming up quick. Fall conferences this year are:

Monday, October 5th- 3:40 pm-7:40 pm

Thursday, October 8th-3:40 pm-7:40 pm

Monday, October 12th-3:40 pm-7:40 pm

K-4th grade conferences are 20 minutes each and 5th grade conferences are 15 minutes each.

Conference scheduling will open Thursday, September 24th at 10:00 am. All scheduling is done through ParentVue.

The Fernbrook Fun Run is the school's largest PTO sponsored fundraiser of the year. Fundraising is currently live and will end on October 2nd. We are currently at $15,850 of our $45,000 goal!

Envelopes will be turned in Friday, September 25th (they will then be returned to the student) and final collection will be October 1st.

To help with entering donations and with participation please register your student on the Fund Hub website. This event is organized by Fernbrook parents but funds are tracked by the Fund Hub website which allows us to keep 95% of the funds collected! Each year we learn about Bus Safety. A bus will be parked outside the front entrance and each classroom visits the bus to learn about safety. We emphasize the following concepts:

• Procedures for safely boarding and leaving a school bus
• Appropriate conduct while on the school bus
• Danger zones surrounding a school bus
• District policies for student conduct and school bus safety
• Procedures for safe street crossing

On Wednesday, September 30th there will be a bus evacuation drill when each bus gets to Fernbrook. Each year the Fernbrook students excel at this drill and make us so proud of our Flyers!

Firstview is an app you can use to track your student's bus. Download it from the App Store or Google Play Store (look for the logo that matches the one to the right.) We all know Minnesota can get cold, this tool is very helpful to see how long you'll need to wait for the bus. It is also the first place that notifications are sent in case of a delay. Once downloaded you will need a district code and student id number. Both can be found in ParentVUE under Student Information.

We are very excited to be able to have lunch visitors back this year! If you choose to visit for lunch bring your drivers license/state id and check it at the front office. We do have a few rules to keep order in our lunch room.

1. Maximum of 2 adult guests
2. You will sit with your student at the guest table, sorry no other guests, just your student
3. You may bring in a special meal/treat but only for your student-no sharing
4. Please only take pictures of yourself and your student.
5. Lunch only-you cannot follow your student out for recess.

We understand that birthdays are an exciting time for your student, and there are families that like to share the love with the student's classroom. If you do decide to share items with your student's class please DO NOT SEND ANY EDIBLE ITEMS it does not matter if it is pre-packaged or homemade, NO EDIBLE ITEMS. IF you choose, only send trinkets/pencils to share.

Fernbrook and Osseo Area Schools uses the communication tool called Talking Points. Talking Points is an app you can download from the App Store or Google Play Store (look for the logo that matches the one to the right.) Any time we have an announcement from school, it can be something little like a dress up day or something good that happened at Fernbrook to more important information like a snow day or a (minor) emergency we get the information out through Talking Points. Reminder: If you have already downloaded the Talking Points app, please make sure the App is up to date and notifications are turned ON!

Option 1. Call the front office at 763-420-8888. Press 1 and that will bring you to the attendance line.

Option 2. Sign into ParentVUE. Click the blue report absence button. Enter in the information.

Please remember to always report your student absent or late to school through one of these options before 10:00am each day. It is great to also let the teacher know but we often don't hear from the teachers so the absence gets missed.

If you are changing the way your student is getting home on any given day you must call the front office and let us know. If we do not hear from the parent/guardian we cannot change their dismissal. Teachers do not always get their messages throughout the day especially if it is later in the afternoon after their break. All dismissal changes need to be communicated to the front office before 2:45.

Students can arrive at Fernbrook no earlier than 8:30 am. Students need to be picked up from Fernbrook by 3:30 pm. We do not have supervision for students outside of these hours. If a student arrives before 8:30 am they will need to wait outside. If you are going to be late picking up your student please call or send a Talking Point message.

Throughout the year there are many opportunities for volunteers at Fernbrook -whether in the classroom, lunchroom, media center, at all school events or on field trips. To be sure we keep our students safe all volunteers MUST have an approved Raptor volunteer application on file BEFORE volunteering. Completing your application now will help ensure you're ready to get involved from day one!

Please note: A Raptor volunteer application needs to be completed each year, if you volunteered last year a new form will need to be filled out for this school year.
