Superstar Snapshots
November 2026
Principal's Message
Superstars Families,
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the beautiful colors in the leaves, the crispness of the air, sweaters, and all things pumpkin! I also love seeing our Superstars digging into their learning, showing what they know in their work, and engaging in student talk about the skills they are learning. This lets me know that the work put into routines and expectations in September was worth it!
I wanted to share some important information and dates.
- If you have moved or your phone number has changed, please contact the office with your new information.
- If your Superstar is going to be absent, please contact the school office. If you have not communicated the absence with the office, you will receive a phone call.
- Our Veterans Day Assembly is Friday, November 6. More information can be found below. If you have a picture of a family member that served in the military and would like their picture to hang in honor at our assembly, simply write your information on the back of the picture and drop it off in the office.
- In observance of Veterans Day, there will be no school on Wednesday, November 11.
- In observance of Thanksgiving, there will be no school on Wednesday, November 25 through Friday, November 28.
We're so thankful for your partnership with us. We do not take it for granted that our partnership is so important. You, as an expert on your Superstar, help make each day a success.
Ms. Smith, Principal
Our Strategic Plan in Action
I Belong. I Believe. I Achieve.
We're bringing our district's Strategic Plan to life through two school goals focused on creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for every student.
Throughout the year, you can expect to find updates on our progress towards increased attendance and decreased behavior rates. This supports goal one, which is a safe, connected, and thriving school community.
You can also expect updates on our academic progress in the areas of math and reading. This supports goal two, which is foundational excellence.

Around Our School
Our kindergarten students are learning about adding details to their ideas. Learning to do this in drawing is a precursor to learning how to do this in writing.
When math and art meet, you get volume pumpkins!
Important News and Reminders
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have a few exciting updates and reminders as we head into the month of October! Please take a moment to review the important information below:
Reporting Absences: If your child is going to be absent, please remember to notify us. You can either call the main office directly or go online to report the absence.
Lost and Found & Labeling Jackets: Our lost and found is currently overflowing with a ton of coats! Please have your child check for any missing items. With the colder weather here, we highly recommend writing your child’s name inside their coats and jackets so we can easily return lost items to them.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Warm Regards,
Ms. Hooper, School Secretary

October was a fun month! We especially enjoyed our field trip to the district office and getting to meet with families conferences. It is such a privilege to get to partner with you in your student's early learning. This month we are wrapping up our tree study and beginning a new unit on our amazing bodies where we will explore anatomy, our five senses, movement, health, and self-care through hands-on inquiry and play.
Literacy Focus: Demonstrates knowledge about self
Math Focus: Understands spatial relationships (on, in, over, under, between)
Upcoming Reminders:
- Our picture day will be on December 1st.
- If your student rides the bus and you know they will be absent, please notify the bus garage: 360-575-7866
Snack donations are always welcome! Individually packaged, nut-free snacks like crackers, cereal bars, and cheese sticks are our favorites. Thank you for helping us keep tummies full and smiles big!

Cozy Up with a Good Book This Fall!
As the days grow shorter, the nights get darker, and the rainy fall weather settles in, it's the perfect time to cozy up with a good book! Reading together is more than just a great way to build reading skills, it's also a wonderful opportunity to slow down, connect, and spend quality time as a family. Whether you're snuggled up on the couch with a blanket, reading before bedtime, or enjoying a quiet afternoon indoors, sharing a book can become one of your family's favorite fall traditions.
Finding time to read together doesn't have to be complicated! Try making reading part of your family's daily routine. Set aside 10–15 minutes before bedtime, read together after dinner, or enjoy a story during a quiet moment on a rainy afternoon. Let your child choose the book, take turns reading pages, or simply enjoy listening as you read aloud. Even a few minutes of reading each day can make a meaningful difference!
Remember, reading at home doesn't always have to look the same. Explore picture books, chapter books, magazines, comics, recipes, or even joke books! Visit your local library to discover new stories, revisit old favorites, and let your child take the lead in choosing what to read. The most important thing is to make reading an enjoyable experience that your child looks forward to.
This fall, I encourage you to make reading together a cozy family tradition. Not only will you be helping your child grow as a reader, but you'll also be creating special memories, one story at a time. Happy reading!

Hello Superstar Families!
This month we will be learning more about the skill of Composure. Composure helps us with our ability to be calm, to be a learner and to show kindness others. I like to tell students that it is our most important skill and in some ways like a super power.
Composure is the ability to become calm and controlled when upset. In other words, composure is “self-control in action.” To practice this skill, we will be working on our breathing. Taking three deep breaths (in through the nose and out through the mouth) helps us calm and access the problem solving parts of our brain. Students will practice their breathing through different techniques such as the S.T.A.R., Pretzel, Drain, and Balloon. Getting our composure helps us press the ‘pause’ button during moments of crisis and access the strengths that are in all of us.
Lastly, for more Social and Emotional resources, you can visit the St. Helens School Counseling website at, https://sites.google.com/longviewschools.org/superstarsschoolcounseling/home. Have a great month!
Wishing you well,
Mr. Thomas, School Counselor
Our trait of the month for November is composure. This means that we try to keep ourselves calm when we encounter difficult situations. The skill we use to help us stay calm is breathing. It’s really important that we breathe in through our nose, hold our breath for a couple seconds, and then very slowly blow out of our mouths, a minimum of three times. By doing this, we activate the part of our brain that tells us we are safe. This helps us to make good decisions through our difficulties. Keep breathing, Superstars! You’ve got this!
