HSD News Round-Up Express
Pictured: HMS was in need of a new ball cart. So students Davis Carter and Wade Barker stepped up and made one out of PVC pipe and connectors. Way to go, Davis and Wade!
This is a shorter, special edition of our usual HSD Round-Up. Inside, you'll find a link to the 2026-27 calendar, school highlights, family-friendly events and activities happening over break, as well as a couple timely reminders to keep you in the loop!
Student-Led Spirit Week Builds Community at HHES
We had lots of fun with Spirit Week at Hockinson Heights Elementary this week! It was great to see so many students participating in each theme day, from Pajama Day to Sparkle and Shine to "Wear Yellow & Black or HHES gear" (pictured). The daily Spirit Week themes were created by student leaders, and their ideas helped bring energy and creativity to the week before Spring Break. Thank you to our student leaders, parents, and staff for making it a fun, student-centered week up on The Hill!
2026-27 HSD Calendar Now Available
After reviewing input from parents and staff, the HSD School Board adopted next year’s calendar at its March 30 Regular Meeting. The calendar resembles this year's calendar, with full-week breaks at Thanksgiving and President's Day. View it here.
Reminder: HSD Transitions to Qmaltive on April 2!
HSD will be transitioning this month from Skyward to Qmlativ, the new version of Skyward. This means Skyward Family Access will be unavailable from Noon on April 2 through April 13 while we make the conversion. We will send a follow-up message to families when the new platform is up and running. Qmlativ is the next version of the Skyward system, and all parent login information will remain the same. Find more information about the transition here.
Spring Sports News
HMS Boys & Girls Track Starts April 13
The HMS Track will soon be abuzz with Hornets running, jumping, throwing - and having fun. Track is a no-cut spring sport that embodies "the more, the merrier" spirit. Eighty students came out for Track last season and had a great time exercising, trying new events, and setting personal bests.
Planning on turning out this spring? Get ready because practices begin on April 13, the day we return from Spring Break! Bring exercise clothes, running shoes, and a positive attitude. Practices run from 3:30 until 5 pm. Sign up here for HMS Boys and Girls Track.
One more reminder:
Are you traveling outside of the USA during the break and plan on using your HSD Google account? Please notify us before you leave: Staff can submit a tech ticket and students should contact their school's media tech. Our helpful media techs are: Jenny Hermann (HHES); Katherine von Kreisler (HMS); and Lisa Krussow (HHS). All three work out of their school's libraries.
Local Spring Break Learning Opportunities
Looking for ways to keep curious minds engaged over spring break? We’ve rounded up a variety of local places, activities, and experiences that will add a little variety and learning to your staycation. Whether your student is interested in science, art, history or just getting out and exploring, we think you'll find something of interest here.
Students can Stock Up for Spring Break Reading
Parents, please remind your students to visit their school's library before heading out on spring break. Depending on the school, students can check out 3 or more books for the week!
