Sudlersville Elementary Judy Center
Early Learning Hub
February focus in playgroups is: Love In Our School Community
During the month of February, the Sudlersville Elementary Judy Center Early Learning Hub playgroup friends will participate in many engaging activities centered on the themes of “Friends” and our “School Community.” We have planned a variety of learning experiences that promote social awareness, sensory exploration, fine motor development, and early literacy skills. Children will have opportunities to create love sensory jars to support social-emotional development, explore how mail travels through the post office system, and observe a traffic light after learning the history of its invention. They will also engage in cultural exploration by learning about Lunar New Year customs and discussing the similarities and differences between our home traditions and cultures, celebrating that we are all unique. We will wrap up our month by sharing our love for one another and reflecting on the values that friendships bring to our community by creating a group friendship chain, showing how when we come together, we can create a beautiful unity.
Let's Celebrate Black History Month!
February is a special time called Black History Month. It is a time to learn about and celebrate the history and achievements of Black people in the United States.
Black History Month helps us remember important stories that were not always included in history books. It honors Black people from long ago—like the Africans who were brought to America in the 1600s—and also celebrates Black heroes living today.
During Black History Month, children can learn about famous Black leaders and role models such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who worked for fairness and equality; Rosa Parks, who stood up for what was right; Harriet Tubman, who helped people find freedom; and Mae Jemison, the first Black woman astronaut. Kids may also recognize Black athletes, artists, and inventors who have helped make the world a better and more exciting place.
Learning about Black History Month helps children understand the past, appreciate differences, and see how Black people have helped shape our country.
