News from Mr. Blase, School Counselor

On Wednesday during Crew, the Decatur High School student athletes came over to present to the classes on good sportsmanship, teamwork, and balancing high school sports with the demands of maintaining high academic standards. The high school students engaged in different scenarios with the classes, led cheers, and answered any questions that the students had. Later in the year, I will teach lessons on good sportsmanship and teamwork.

What's Happening in P.E.?

Over the past two weeks in P.E., students have been learning and practicing basketball skills. We focused on dribbling fundamentals, different types of passing, and wrapped up with shooting and defensive form. Next week, we’ll put those skills into action with scrimmages and then kick off our jump rope unit!

Zara's Fund Mascot Art Contest - We're creating a t-shirt that includes each CSD school's mascot and will be selling them at the CSD Art Show March 31-April 2 as a fundraiser for Zara's Fund, DEF's arts fund (so that we can support more arts programming in all of our schools!). Students should submit their designs to their art teachers by Feb. 6th.

Tour deCatur - March 14th - Sign up here! This year we're partnering with our Decatur Bulldog Booster friends and are offering a "Bulldog Jog" option for anyone who'd like to run with their dog (while the Boosters' Run With the Dogs 5k is on "paws"). Also new this year, you'll see an option to join a team. (This is a participation competition - not a fundraising one.) The school with the largest percentage of participation will receive a trophy, a grant from DEF, and bragging rights!
