Lamers Bus Company - THERE IS STILL AN URGENT NEED FOR BUS DRIVERS!
September 21, 2023
Subject: WCSD and Lamers Bus Update
Dear 4K-12 Families:
The Waunakee Community School District works in partnership with Lamers Bus Company to provide transportation to and from school for our families. All 4K-12 students that live within the transportation boundaries have access to school bus transportation.
This week, we are experiencing several bus route delays due to the ongoing bus driver shortage. Many communities and school districts across the country are in the same situation. Lamers and the school district are working closely together on a multi-faceted strategy to respond to the bus driver shortage, as well as navigating the challenges with alternate routes, delayed routes, schedules, etc. Our main goal is the safety of our students, as well as minimizing the impact on our students and families. We will always communicate with the school buildings and those families that may be impacted by the bus delays. We expect that bus driver availability will improve next week.
Urgent NEED for School Bus Drivers
Do you enjoy working with kids? Would you like a flexible schedule and better work-life balance? Does great pay with extra earning opportunities appeal to you? The Waunakee Community School District and Lamers Bus Company are in urgent need of new school bus drivers.
Even if you can’t drive, you can still help!
The school district is offering a $500 referral bonus and a $500 new hire bonus for all new school bus drivers (Contingent upon 90 days of service). Lamers is also offering an opportunity to earn up to $2,400 in additional incentive payments. Please note, if these positions are not filled, transportation service for the district will be impacted.
Interested in applying? Please call Lamers at (608) 850-5253 and ask to speak with Jeremy or Tom.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Anne Blackburn

Middle School Fundraising Campaign
Our school is currently running a fundraising campaign to support our staff throughout the year. This includes meals at conference time and teacher appreciation week. In the past we have asked for families to drop off items, however, by raising funds, we will hope to make it easier on you by coordinating the meal and treat efforts. We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, but if you are able to contribute, your donation would make a meaningful impact.
Every dollar counts, and even a small contribution can help us reach our goal!
Your support is invaluable to us, and we appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you for being a part of our school community!
Universal Screening Consent
September 18, 2023
To: Families of students in 7th grade
From: WCMS Student Services
Dear Families,
Waunakee Community School District (WCSD) is committed to supporting all students’ wellness and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). During the 2023-2024 school year, WCSD Student Services staff will facilitate universal screening for students in grades 5, 7, and 9. The screener, also referred to as a brief questionnaire or survey for grades 7 and 9, is called the BASC-3 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BASC-3 BESS). It takes about five to eight minutes to complete. 7th grade students will complete the screener during homeroom this fall.
The BASC-3 BESS is a tool that asks students to broadly rate their own skills in the following areas: Behavior and Emotional Risk Index, Internalizing Risk Index, Personal Adjustment Risk Index, and Self-Regulation Risk Index. This screener also includes questions to identify potential internalizing or externalizing mental health concerns. Because of this, the screener is confidential but not anonymous. Our student services staff may follow up with students and their families when a screener indicates an elevated concern.
If you would like to opt your 7th-grade student out of participating in this screener, please complete the following google form or contact the WCMS School Psychologist no later than Friday, September 29, 2023 at 3:45 pm. Students may also choose to decline participation at the time the survey is administered. Lastly, upon request, a copy of the screening survey is available at your child’s school.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Paige Raymond

Ordering School Pictures after Picture Day
If you did not Pre-Order photos prior to Picture Day, then the code that was previously given, is no longer valid. This code was for Pre-Orders only. LIfeTouch will send a proof for each student that did not pre-order pictures. The homeroom teacher will pass out the proofs. The proof will have an individual code to order pictures. We will receive the proofs with the individual codes after LifeTouch has completed processing the picture orders.
