Brown Elementary Update

October 17, 2025
A note from the principal
Greetings Brown Families and Caregivers,
Today we held our first whole school core values assembly. We celebrated students who have received PAWSitive office referrals and introduced our core value focus for the six weeks: Practice Empathy. We reviewed two key questions to help us practice empathy.
- How is this person feeling?
- What would make this person feel better?
In the upcoming weeks, teachers will be reinforcing this learning during their Social Emotional Learning time. You can support at home by looking for opportunities to support your child in practicing empathy. If a family member or friend is experiencing big feelings, remind them to ask the questions above. You can also reinforce this skill when reading a book or watching television. Characters often experience challenging emotions. This is a great opportunity to pause and identify the character's feelings and how another character could practice empathy.
Thank you for all you do to support our this important learning!
In partnership,
Dr. Johanna Even
Principal
Cultural Arts Assembly
Many thanks to our Brown School PTO for sponsoring our first school-wide Cultural Arts Assembly - Brazilian Beats! The students had a great time learning about Brazilian rhythms and practicing their Samba moves!
Renaissance Learning Report
Renaissance Learning Update For 2025-2026 School Year
Over the last couple of weeks, students have participated in reading and math screeners through our Universal Screener Renaissance Learning. These quick assessments help us identify areas of need, monitor learning progress and provide the right support to help every student grow. We will be mailing assessment reports home for all students in grades 1-4 next week. Please see below for additional information about the assessments and accompanying reports:

Halloween Parade
The Brown School Halloween Parade
K through 4
October 31 @ 8:55 am
All students will go out the back grade 4 door. Starting with Grade 1 followed by Kindergarten and will walk down the sidewalk by the side of the school and across the front of the school and into the Grade 1 door. Parents may view from the side of the bus zone and on the basketball courts. Do not park in front of the school so it will not obstruct the view of the parade.
If it rains, we will parade indoors. No visitors will be permitted for an indoor parade.
Please remember:
Costumes must meet school dress code
(NO age inappropriate props or weapons)
No painted faces or masks
Costumes must be carried, not worn to school
Due to extremely limited parking, we strongly encourage parents to walk or carpool. Absolutely no parking will be allowed in front of the school on Jean Burke Drive.
