Principal's Corner
Dear Hirsch Hawk Families,
We hope this message finds you well! We want to take a moment to celebrate the success of Field Day, which took place last Friday. Our students had an incredible time participating in a variety of games and activities, and their energy and smiles lit up the day—even when the weather didn’t cooperate. Thanks to the hard work and quick thinking of Coach Mack and our CAPE team, students were able to smoothly transition indoors and keep the fun going. We are so grateful for the time, effort, and heart they put into making this event one to remember!
This week also marks the start of End of Year assessments. This is an exciting time when students from Pre-K through 5th grade have the opportunity to show how much they’ve learned and grown this year. Unlike STAAR, which focuses on achievement, these assessments are all about growth—and we are aiming for every student to meet or exceed their individual growth goals.
Here’s what to expect:
-
Pre-K students will take the Circle Assessment, which helps measure development in language, literacy, and early math skills.
-
Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will complete the mClass Reading Assessment to demonstrate their growth in foundational reading skills.
-
3rd through 5th grade students will take the MAP Reading Assessment, while Kindergarten through 5th grade will also take the MAP Math Assessment. These assessments help us understand how much each child has progressed in both reading and math.
Please talk with your child about these assessments and encourage them to set a goal for growth. Remind them that their hard work all year long is paying off, and this is their moment to shine!
In addition, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we cannot say enough about how truly amazing our teachers are here at Hirsch. They give their all—day in and day out—to make sure our students are learning, growing, and thriving. They are real-life superheroes who go above and beyond for our kids every single day.
We invite you to help us show our teachers just how much they are loved and appreciated! Here are a few simple ways students and families can say “thank you” this week:
-
Write a kind note or card to your teacher.
-
Bring in a flower or small treat to brighten their day.
-
Send an email or message sharing how your child has grown this year.
-
Encourage your child to draw a picture or create something special to celebrate their teacher.
-
Just saying a heartfelt "thank you" can go a long way!
Finally, we’ve officially entered the month of May, and that means it’s time for some extra fun! We encourage all students to participate in their grade level’s May Day dress-up themes. We also have several exciting activities planned as we wrap up the school year, and daily attendance is more important than ever. Let’s finish strong together!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Let’s make these last few weeks full of gratitude, growth, and joyful memories!
