Help Us Keep Meals (and Classrooms) Funded
Thanks to California’s Universal Meals program, every student can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. But here’s what many don’t realize: the program is not fully funded, and HCSD covers more than $100,000 in meal program costs each year, pulling funds away from classrooms.
Here’s the breakdown:
-
For every breakfast served, the district earns $1.36
For every lunch served, the district earns $1.30
- $2.10 per breakfast
- $4.30 per lunch
Those numbers add up fast. Here’s how you can help reduce waste, protect funding, and keep the program strong for all students:
School Snacks & Treats
Hosting a class party or event? Please consider hosting after lunch time. This can increase funding, decrease waste, and keep the District in compliance.
Child Has an Upcoming Field Trip?
Our meal provider, ORDO, offers cold, bagged breakfasts and lunches for both day field trips and departure days for overnight field trips. If you would like your child to have school meal on that day, please submit in advance a Field Trip Meal Request.
Every meal served helps fund the program and ensures students are well-fed and ready to learn.
E-Bike Webinar Replay
Parents and guardians are invited to watch the replay of a timely webinar explaining what to look for when purchasing an e-bike so your choice is safe, legal, and reliable. This session explains e-bike classifications and offers practical guidance to help families make informed decisions.
This presentation features Bob Mittelstaedt, co-founder of E-Bike Access, and was sponsored by SMCOE's Safe Routes to School, and the California Office of Traffic Safety, in partnership with The Parent Venture.
Happenings Around HCSD
Congratulations to Mr. Andrew Lu!
HCSD’s own Andrew Lu has been selected as the 2026 CCDA CASMEC Early Career Conductor of the Year! This statewide honor recognizes his outstanding leadership, artistry, and dedication to young choral musicians. Mr. Lu leads the music program at Crocker and supports our growing elementary instrumental program, and we’re so proud to see his talents recognized across California. Bravo!
