This month, we are focusing on Respect — treating others the way we want to be treated. Families can practice by listening carefully, using kind words, and celebrating differences. Try asking your child: “What does respect look like at home, at school, or on the playground?”

At the end of the month, one student from each classroom will be recognized at our school assembly for demonstrating respect.

**UPDATE ON LEVEL 1 OR 2 VOLUNTEERING** **UPDATE ON LEVEL 1 OR 2 VOLUNTEERING**

Please note the update to the volunteer tiered requirements. All Walteria field trips being planned for this year currently qualify for Level 1 status. That means we currently do not have a need for Level 2 Volunteers. If anything changes, the teacher or office would communicate these changes to parents. Thank you!

Walteria Cell Phone Policy

California's Phone-Free Schools Act (Assembly Bill 3216) requires all school districts to adopt policies limiting or prohibiting student smartphone use during the school day. At Walteria, cell phones and any other devices used to communicate are considered Mobile Communication Devices (cell phones, smart watches, etc). At Walteria, Mobile Communication Devices shall:

  • Be turned off and put away during class time, and at any other time as directed by a District employee. (BP 5131.8)
  • Not disrupt the educational program or school activity. (BP 5131.8)

If a disruption occurs or a student uses any mobile communications device for improper activities, the employee shall direct the student to turn off the device and/or confiscate it. If a school employee finds it necessary to confiscate a device, he/she may either return it at the end of the class period or school day or keep it until the principal or designee has consulted with the student's parent/guardian (TUSD AR 5144).
