Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hello everyone,

I want to thank our PAC and all the volunteers for putting on an incredible event for Meet the Staff night and thank all who attended. Thank you for the ongoing and continued support from the PAC! We are always looking for volunteers to support this wonderful group so please join us Monday, Sept 21st at 6PM for the first meeting!

As we begin another wonderful week at our school, I am grateful for the continued support and partnership of our students, staff, and families. Together, we help create a caring Catholic community where every child is encouraged to learn, grow, and live out the values of our faith.

This week, we are focusing on the character trait of respect. We will be reminding students to show respect through their words, actions, and choices—by listening carefully, treating others with kindness, caring for our school environment, and appreciating the gifts and differences of each person.

Respect is an important way we follow Jesus’ example and show love for one another. I encourage families to continue this conversation at home by discussing ways we can demonstrate respect in our homes, school, and wider community.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I wish everyone a happy, successful, and faith-filled week!

Blessings,

Kristie

🌱 Introducing ROOTED in Character at St. Luke Catholic School! 🥔

This year at St. Luke Catholic School, we are excited to introduce a new school-wide initiative called ROOTED in Character!

At St. Luke, we believe that education is about so much more than academics. While learning to read, write, solve problems, create, and think critically is incredibly important, we also believe in helping our students grow into kind, respectful, courageous, compassionate, and faith-filled people.

That is where our newest friend comes in…

🥔 Meet Our ROOTED in Character Potato Head family!

Throughout the school year, our students and staff will work together to build our very own ROOTED in Character Potato Head in each class!

But this is not just any Potato Head. Each piece will represent an important character trait that helps make our school community stronger.

As students demonstrate positive character traits, they can be recognized and celebrated. Together, these acts of kindness, courage, respect, responsibility, compassion, perseverance, and other positive qualities will help us add pieces to our Potato Head.

One positive choice at a time, we will build something amazing together!

Just like a potato needs strong roots to grow, we believe that our students need strong values to help guide them through life. Our goal is to help students become ROOTED in the values that will help them make good choices, build healthy relationships, and become the people God created them to be.

🌱 What does it mean to be ROOTED?

Being ROOTED means that our character is grounded in something strong.

At St. Luke, we want our students to be rooted in:

  • ❤️ Kindness
  • 🤝 Respect
  • 💪 Courage
  • 🌟 Responsibility
  • 💕 Compassion
  • 🙌 Perseverance
  • 🕊️ Faith
  • 😊 Gratitude

These traits will be highlighted throughout the year in our classrooms, hallways, assemblies, and daily interactions.

🥔 Every Piece Matters!

One of our favourite parts of this initiative is the reminder that every piece matters — just like every person in our school matters.

Our Potato Head cannot be complete with only one or two pieces. In the same way, a strong school community is built when everyone contributes.

A student who chooses kindness on the playground matters.

A student who includes someone who is feeling left out matters.

A student who keeps trying when learning is difficult matters.

A staff member who goes out of their way to help someone matters.

A parent who supports and encourages our school community matters.

Every positive choice helps us grow.

Throughout the year, students and staff members will have opportunities to recognize one another when they see these character traits in action. These recognitions will help us celebrate the many wonderful choices happening every day at St. Luke Catholic School.

And as our Potato Head grows, so will our celebration of the incredible character being demonstrated throughout our school!

✝️ Rooted in Faith

As a Catholic school, we know that the strongest roots are found in faith.

Jesus calls us to love one another, serve one another, forgive one another, and recognize the dignity and worth of every person we meet.

Our ROOTED in Character program will help us connect these everyday actions to our Catholic faith. Whether we are showing kindness, demonstrating courage, offering forgiveness, or including someone who feels alone, we are putting our faith into action.

Our hope is that this initiative reminds every member of our school community that character is not something we simply talk about — it is something we practice every day.

We are so excited to watch our ROOTED in Character Potato Head come to life throughout the year!

Families, we invite you to join us in celebrating these character traits at home as well. Ask your child which trait they are working on and how they have seen someone demonstrate it at school.

During each month, students will have a character trait introduced to them at the first monthly assembly. There, we talk about a Saint who is know for showing that faith in their lives. Additionally, students will read books on these traits both from a Catholic persepecive and a diverse cultural persepective. Each child or staff member recognized by others will be celebrated at the monthly assembly as the end of the month. Parents willbe invited to celbrate too!

Together, we can help our children grow strong roots.

Because when we are ROOTED in faith, kindness, and character, there is no limit to how much we can grow!

🥔🌱 One school. One community. Many unique pieces. ROOTED. UNITED. SENT. 🌱🥔

Music Opportunity

Dear St Luke Families in grade 1 to 6,

We are thrilled to offer a very special, musical opportunity for your children. We have been invited to participate in the Norman Foote Howl Masquerade alongside Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns in Sherwood Park. Students have the opportunity to perform on stage at Festival Place.

Norman Foote has performed throughout North America and beyond in theatres and festivals. He has written and recorded for companies such as Disney Records, CBC, YTV, and many others. His songwriting and recordings have garnered several awards, including a Juno Award, WCMAs, and Parents' Choice Gold, and a recent WCMA nomination.

Everybody sings & everybody howls in this lighthearted one-hour family concert.

A colourful and animated choir of young, costumed howlers joins Norman Foote with their singing, sound effects, animal sounds, zombie groans, cackling witches, ghostly boos, and spontaneous laughter. (Note: this is not a scary show - only fun!). The concert combines Norman’s songs, humour and props all to great effect.

If your child is interested in participating, a letter will be going home for parents to sign permission and agree to committing to bringing their child to the performance. This is an out-of-school performance. Our date is October 21st at 7pm, in Sherwood Park at Festival Place. Parents will also receive a discount code to purchase tickets if they wish to stay and watch their child perform on stage. Participating children go for free. Norman will be coming to our school several times before the concert to practice with the children at lunch hour and they will also be learning the songs during music class.

Anyone interested, please inform Mrs. Marple

How We Celebrate Birthdays @STL! How We Celebrate Birthdays @STL!

Birthdays are important to us here at STL! We call it our "God Made You" day and we want each child to feel celebrated and special on their big day! Teachers may have a small surprise for that child, or they may get a special privilage, like a special chair or a turn to do something fun that day to make it super special. At the office, we announce their name and they are called down to collect a birthday prize.

Unfortunately, we aren't able to bring in treats and snacks, cake or cupcakes. Food is a special way to celebrate a birthday, at home, but with allergies and dietary considerations, as well as having parents being the primary decision maker on nutrition, we aren't able to bring treats or food for birthdays. As an Apple School, we try to encourage other ways of celbrating rather than with sugary treats.

We also want to create a space where all childern can experience a special day, regardless if their parents work all day, or are able to drop in or not.

Please know that we celebrate birthdays in a big way both as a school and in the classroom. Do not feel obligated in any way to send anything at all. We ensure your child feels all the love on their special day.

If your child is celebrating a birthday, and you really want to do something special, please consider bringing pencils, erasers, special markers or other school supplies to be shared with the class. Loot Bags and balloons, etc. can be very distracting and difficult to manage in a classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to chat! We really appreciate your cooperation.

We love to have vistors and to show off all the amazing things happening at STL!

When you arrive at the school, please be sure to sign in and check in with Mrs. Stewart in the office.

In order to be less disruptive to classes, we can call students down to the office if needed. This ensures that class time stays on track. Thanks for helping us with this!
