Lung Simulation
The lung simulation activity turns the abstract health warning about smoking into something students can actually see and understand. This activity was chosen because it is both visual and memorable, and many students will likely remember it for years to come.
The effects of smoking can be a complex concept for teens and young adults to fully grasp. By examining a smoker’s lung simulation in class, students can better understand the impact smoking has on the body, which supports prevention efforts. The demonstration also opens up meaningful conversations about how smoking affects not only the lungs, but overall health.
This prevention-focused lung demonstration will continue with the remaining junior high classes next week. We want to extend our thanks to Sullivan County LCC for the grant that made this educational activity possible!

Raft Trip Essay Winners
In September, North Central's 8th grade students planned to participate in the annual Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District's raft trip. However, the weather had other ideas, and the students were only able to visit the stations and have a picnic lunch.
The students were still able to participate in the essay contest, and they wrote 500-700 word essays in Mrs. Roberts' language arts class. Two students were chosen by the SWCD to receive $100 each. The two winning essays at North Central were written by Brookelee Barrett and Sophia Bryan. Congratulations!
NCHS Wrestling
Congrats to the NCHS wrestling team, who steadily improved all season long! Additionally, Caden Bays will compete in this weekend's regional tournament after finishing as the runner-up in his weight class in the Bloomington sectional!
Character Award: IMAGINATION
North Central honored this month's character award winners for the character trait of imagination.
From left to right, the students are Aria Fiscus (7th Grade), Wyatt White-Clark (8th), Skylynn Throckmorton (9th), Ann Moss (10th), Shelby Shattuck (11th), and Fianna Stephens (12th). Congratulations students and keep up the creativity!

Indiana Hoosiers Hoops
Student Council students recently enjoyed another exciting opportunity to attend an IU Women’s Basketball game. A big thank you to Smithville for generously providing tickets once again. Students were thrilled to have front-row seats as IU played a close, exciting game against Iowa. In addition to the game, students met members of the IU softball team and received autographs, met Hoosier the Bison—IU’s new mascot—who loved their Student Council shirts, appeared on the big screen, and received posters celebrating IU football’s trip to the National Championship game. It was truly an unforgettable IU experience for our students!
IU Day
IU Day was a big hit with our 3rd–6th grade students! Throughout the day, students designed IU football posters, learned the fight song and cheers, and created rally towels to show their Hoosier pride. The excitement carried into the evening as IU went on to win the National Championship that night, making it an extra special and memorable day for our students. Go Hoosiers!
Celebrating IU Football
When IU competed in the College Football Playoffs, our 2nd and 6th graders joined in the excitement with a school-day tailgate celebration alongside their reading buddies. Students learned the IU fight song and hand motions, created rally towels like those handed out at IU football games, and enjoyed popcorn and football-shaped crackers.
Throughout the week, students noticed small bison and Indiana Football symbols appearing around the school, which added to the excitement and school spirit leading up to the game.
The celebration continued that evening as IU won the Peach Bowl, and students proudly used their rally towels while watching the game. School spirit, teamwork, and lots of smiles made it a memorable day. Go Hoosiers!
Day 100
Our elementary students celebrated the 100th Day of School with an exciting Day 100 Detective Day Mystery! The fun began when the Scorers Bench from the gym went missing and our SRO, Officer Mott, arrived to investigate.
Kindergarten, first, and second grade students became detectives, completing missions involving 100 — including coin flips, building the number 100 with blocks, a 100-domino Rube Goldberg-style build, and a 100 I Spy. Each mission revealed clues to help eliminate suspects, along with interviews sharing alibis, such as custodian Amy cleaning 100 toilets.
In the end, the mystery was solved when it was discovered that custodian Tuesday had simply taken the bench to clean it.
It was a fun-filled day celebrating 100 days of learning, teamwork, and problem-solving!

Also on Day 100, students were challenged to decide whether there were more or less than 100 items and then give their best estimate. They did an amazing job using their number sense and critical thinking skills! Congratulations to our winners!

Synchronous E-Learning Success
Kindergarten students enjoyed synchronous learning that included making snow ice cream, computer learning time focused on the letter Yy, number line practice, and listening to a story for AR testing. When not learning together live, students continued their learning through sing-along songs and interactive activities on PBS Kids.
After a day of E-Learning, several First Grade students braved the cold to explore the snow while learning their word of the day: snow drift—a bank of deep snow heaped up by the wind.
Great job with synchronous learning, T-birds!

Happy 40th Bday, Principal Kamman
When your principal turns 40 at school, you celebrate BIG!
The staff wore shirts featuring her through-the-years photos, enjoyed a carry-in with all her favorite foods, and presented her with a basket full of gifts and gift cards—along with a special Nancy cake made by her mom.
After the students sang “Happy Birthday,” Principal Kamman was joyfully showered in confetti pom-pom balls and—because she truly loves her school family—finished the celebration by making snow angels in the confetti!
Hands-On in Science
Our 6th graders got hands-on in science earlier this month. While dissecting owl pellets, students explored food webs and debated whether barn owls could help balance an ecosystem by reducing squirrel and mouse populations. Great critical thinking and inquiry in action!

100th Day Celebration
Mrs. Snellenbergers Kindergarten students celebrated 100th day of school with fun activities, counting to one hundred, and having 100 pieces of snacks! We had a great time and enjoyed our 100 days of school!
Red Kettle Campaign
Back in November, our school participated in the Red Kettle Campaign to raise money for families in need in Sullivan County. Mrs. Tharp’s second graders were excited to find out their class had brought in the most money. They enjoyed a visit from a few members of the Salvation Army and got to enjoy ice cream and toppings. These kids have such big hearts and were happy to help others out in our community.
Ancient Rome Visits Farmersburg
The third-grade classes at Northeast North Elementary celebrated a special Family Day featuring students’ knowledge of Ancient Roman Civilization. Parents and students participated in four stations: a food station in which they got to taste some Italian cuisine; a craft station where students created a shield mosaic; a Reader’s Theater which included interesting information the students had learned about Ancient Rome and finally, a paragraph reading station in which students got to experience public speaking as they read an opinion paragraph they had written about which god or goddess they thought should have a statue in Modern Rome. All students dressed in togas and wore hand-made laurel wreaths which signified victory and triumph in Ancient Roman Civilization.
