7th Grade: Team Acadia and Baxter
February 2026
Academic Class Updates
ELA (Mrs.Bouchard and Mrs.Pelletier)
In ELA classes, students are working to finish the novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. On Friday, February 13, 2026, Team Acadia and Team Baxter will be celebrating Blue Day to honor Sally Jackson's belief for Percy that anything is possible, even blue food! If you are interested in donating food to this special event, please see our sign up sheet. Seventh Grade Blue Day. As a culminating activity, kids have been working hard to write a descriptive writing piece about a modern day Greek god/goddess. Kids will be reading the anonymously submitted pieces and voting on the most detailed and exceptionally written ones. Winners from each team will then be selected by the students to be recipients of the Nike Goddess of Victory Awards. After February break, we will continue the theme of a Hero's Journey as we begin reading about the adventures of Harry Potter. It will be magical!
Science (Mrs.Goodson and Mrs.Wurth)
Your students have been mastering Punnett squares during the month of February, as we continue our genetics unit! Before the break we are learning about the importance of genetics within our own backyard! With the focus on the Maine Potato industry, we are discovering how scientists and farmers must work together to create new potato varieties to help combat the changing climate! Ask your students what they have learned :)
Social Studies (Mr.Arsenault and Mr.Tellier)
The 7th grade social studies classes are now covering all 27 amendments! Students should be able to recite the first 10 aka Bill of Rights on their own. By the end of this week, students will have begun their amendment projects. Students pick 1 out of the 27 amendments to become an expert on. Each student will do extensive research and write a paper on this amendment. Eventually, they will put their findings onto a tri-fold poster and present it to the class.
Math (Mr.Cote and Mr.Petit)
The students have been working hard in our current algebra unit. They have been solving one-step equations, two-step equations, word problems with algebraic equations, and multi-step equations. We are aiming to wrap up this unit before February break. Upon return from break, we will move on to algebraic inequalities.
STEM (Mr.Long)
In Engineering, we've been wrapping up creating models of important inventions and structures from 500-1800. You may recall that we made models from early eras in history in the beginning of the year. Eventually, all the models will be displayed in a historical timeline in our classroom. It's so nice to see students incorporating new skills into their designs like 3 printing and improving on their creativity, collaboration, and construction skills. Check out the Taj Mahal, Viking Ship, and Plague Doctor Mask!
Upcoming Field Trip!
Mariners Field Trip
We plan to attend the Maine Mariners School Game, on March 10th, 2026. The game time is 10:30 AM. We will leave BMS at 9 AM and return for the normal dismissal time. We will be sending out a reminder and more information after February Break!
