The Gospel Calls for Unity

This week we jumped into 1 Corinthians 1 with Paul's call for unity. We had some great discussion about how we as believers in Jesus Christ are called to a different standard. We are to wage peace and to bring unity to a world that is divided along so many lines.

Our world desperately needs unity—politically, socially, ethnically, economically, culturally—in a time when disunity is just as common as unity. The causes of disunity in these areas may vary, but the one place where unity should stand out is in the church. In fact, this is exactly what we see Paul advocating among the Corinthian church.

Take some time as a family and read over 1 Corinthians 1:10-31. Then answer the questions from the "One Conversation" link below. Hopefully, it will spark some great conversation from which everyone can learn something!

Student Mission Trip

When: April 1-5, 2019. We will leave Covington around lunchtime on the 1st and return by the afternoon of the 5th.

Cost: Because of a very generous donation toward the cost of this trip, the total cost of the whole week with transportation, meals, and lodging is only $100 per person. After you sign up, you can pay at the Information Center at JLC.

What we will be doing: We will be going to Milton, FL (right outside Pensacola) to work with the organization Feeding the Gulf Coast to pack and distribute meals to needy families and individuals affected by Hurricane Michael. This hurricane destroyed homes and businesses and schools and normalcy. Thousands are still without homes or a source of income, and are literally living day to day. We will have the awesome opportunity of serving them in the Name of Jesus, Who brings light and love and hope in the darkest situations.

Where we will be staying: We will be staying at a local Christian camp in Milton, FL. This will definitely have a mission trip feel; bunk beds, bath house for showers, A/C only where the beds are located …

Just to be clear, this is not a posh trip to the beach, BUT it is going to be sooooo good! Talk about memories made, friendships formed, serving the least of these, being used by Jesus to spread His light and His love!

Who: There are 20 spots available for students (this includes both campuses). Since there are a limited number of spots available, students will have the opportunity to sign up, based on grade, beginning February 3 at the JLC student ministry table.

The sign-ups will go as follows:

- February 3: 11th and 12th graders can sign up

- February 10: 10th-12th graders can sign up (depending on availability)

- February 17: 9th-12th graders can sign up (depending on availability)

- February 24: 6th-12th graders can sign up (depending on availability)
