I hope you are staying cool and enjoying summer! After a quiet July here at Westridge, things are starting to pick up as we get ready for your children to return to school on August 29th. We will continue to share updates as the school year approaches, but wanted to update you on a few items now. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or good news! I will be working all month!

School Supplies for 2022-2023

You can find school supply lists for next school year on the Westridge website!

PikMyKid:

We will no longer be using PikMyKid as a dismissal program for the 2022-2023 school year. More information will be coming forward as we create a new dismissal procedure for the new school year, but until then, feel free to delete the app.

Champions Before and After School Learning Program

We are looking forward to having Champions Learning Program join the school to lead our Before and After School Programs. The enrollment, thus far, is more than double what was anticipated, so Champions is still needing to hire SEVERAL more staff members to ensure all enrolled families can be supported.

They have added bonuses for staff hired between now and the start of school and, in addition, they will provide two weeks of free tuition to a Champions family, for any referral hired. They even are offering donations to the Charity of your choice if you refer someone who is hired on to the Champions Team.

If you , or someone you know, loves connecting with children, this could be a great Part Time Job with Full Time Benefits. Think about who you would recommend and trust with your own children, they might be the perfect person interested in working a few hours a day.

For more details or to apply or send a referral, please reach out to the Area Manager, Stephanie Scanlon (stephanie.scanlon@discoverchampions.com).

Smart Start Thursday, Aug. 25, 1-3 p.m.

Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents and guardians, to make introductions and connect with their teachers and to feel prepared and welcomed for the start of school. Parent/Guardian Checklist

2022-23 School Year

This information is designed to assist parents and guardians of students with IEPs and 504s to identify and plan for important dates in preparation for the upcoming school year.

BEFORE ALL STUDENTS GO BACK TO SCHOOL

  • You will receive an introductory phone call or email from your student’s case manager between August 23-25, 2022. If you do not hear from your case manager by then, please contact Student Services at karen.stewart@loswego.k12.or.us.

  • The opportunity for students with IEPs and 504s to meet with your teachers before school begins is called Smart Start. This voluntary event gives students an opportunity to introduce themselves, as well as provide any important information about how they learn and how best to support them. Smart Start is Thursday, August 25, 1-3 p.m.

  • Students are encouraged to complete a one-page profile to share with your teachers during their introductory meetings. Please click here for a fillable elementary and secondary option that can be emailed or printed. Or, your student is welcome to make one of their own.

  • Transportation per IEP: Students who receive specialized transportation will receive confirmation of bus transportation plans from Student Transportation of American by August 26.

ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

  • Elementary Smart Start meetings are Thursday, August 25 between 1-3 p.m. Students may visit with their teacher at any time during this time.

  • During your time with the teacher, you and your student will:

    • Make introductions.

    • Share your one-page student profile information.

ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

  • Middle and High School Smart Start meetings are Thursday, August 25 between 1-3 p.m. Students may visit with as many of their class period teachers as they choose during this open house.

    • Make introductions.

    • Share your one-page student profile information.

THE FOLLOWING IS A CHECKLIST OF WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM YOUR CASE MANAGER AND THE STUDENT SERVICES TEAM DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF SCHOOL:

  • Principals will notify all families when final class assignments and schedules are posted.

  • All of your student’s teachers will have access to their IEP or 504. They will review the document in advance of your Smart Start appointment to facilitate an effective and efficient introduction. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact your student’s case manager. If you are unsure who is your student’s case manager, please contact Karen Stewart.

  • Special education and related services will be organized with a finalized schedule during the week of August 29, 2021. If you have questions, please contact your student’s case manager.

2022-2023 Verification

LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:

  • Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
  • Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
  • Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.

Not attending Westridge next year?

If your student will be returning to Westridge next year (or if you have a 5th grader going to Lakeridge Middle School), then there is no action needed on your part.

If your student will be attending a school other than Westridge (or Lakeridge Middle School), please email Andrea Murphy at murphya@loswego.k12.or.us as soon as possible.
