Principal's Message

Happy Sunday Scorpion Families!

Looking forward to another great week! If there is any Scorpion family that you know is not receiving our newsletters or text messages, please advise them to check with our front office to see if there number is correct or if they opted out of receiving messages. Thank you!

Thank you

Thank you parents for your patience as we keep our Scorpions safe during after school dismissal. We have resumed our normal pick up procedures and we thank you for your patience. We will advise you in the event that we have to change to inclement weather (gym pick up) procedures in the future.

Late Pick Up- Safety

Due to safety issues, ALL students that are on campus past 3:30pm will be brought into the campus (3:00 for PK and KG). Parents will have to park and sign out student. Repeated late pickups will result in conference with admin. Please inform your Scorpions to walk home or to wait patiently until they are picked up. We are noticing an increase in discipline issues with middle school students that are waiting after school for pickup. Thank you.

Late Drop Off

Please make plans to park and sign your child in if your child is arriving late to campus (if not inside campus by 7:45am). Repeated late pickups will result in conference with admin. Thank you in advance.

Observance of Traffic Procedures and Safety

Thank you for helping us keep our Scorpions safe by observing all traffic procedures. Please observe all vehicle exit and entrance signs, as well as using our crosswalks. All these are put in place to ensure safety for all. Please do not drop off children on the street and please do not drop off earlier than 7:15am. Thank you.

Free Dress Mondays

Students have already been informed by teachers if they earned free dress tomorrow for Monday- Friday attendance (zero tardies). We will be contacting parents for a change of clothes if child did not earn free dress. Please assist us by sending your child in their uniform if your child was absent and/or tardy any day of the week of August 19th-23rd. Thank you

Free Dress MONDAYS! Free Dress MONDAYS!

Parents, please help us by only allowing your child to come to school in free dress on MONDAYS ONLY if they were present EVERY DAY the previous week. Students that were tardy during the week are NOT able to come in free dress. We had many students that are coming in free dress when it was not earned. Free Dress days are a campus wide incentive for students who have earned it. Teachers will be verifying who earned free dress and we will be calling parents to bring clothing for their child if their child is supposed to be in uniform. In the event that parents cannot bring clothes (or we cannot contact parents), students will be provided uniform pants and shirts from our reserve (we try our best to find the correct fit, but this is not always possible). Repeated dress code violations will result in disciplinary measures. Please help us and your child avoid this predicament by ONLY allowing your child to come to school in free dress if your child was present EVERY DAY of the previous week with ZERO tardies.

Students must also be in appropriate attire. Our dress code DOES NOT allow the following, even if the student is wearing a hoodie:

  • Ripped jeans/ pants
  • Spaghetti straps
  • crop tops (belly button is showing when arms are raised)
  • tube tops
  • Crocs
  • Excessively tight clothing
  • Knit leggings/ tights as pants

Thank you in advance.

Cell Phones/ Electronic Devices Cell Phones/ Electronic Devices

Cell phones (to include smart watches with cell phone capability) must be TURNED OFF as soon as student arrives on campus and will remain off during the entire instructional/afterschool tutoring portion of the school day. Any cell phone that is not turned off, is out and visible, or is not put away in student's backpack or purse during the school day, including lunch, will be confiscated. Cellphones that are in student's pockets or tucked into front of pants will be confiscated.

  • 1st Offense: Phone will be confiscated. Parent will be notified and student can pick up at the end of the school day from the front desk.
  • 2nd Offense and any offense thereafter: Phone will be confiscated. Parent will be notified and phone will be picked up by a parent after school at the front desk. A $15 fine is paid as per SISD Board Policy on the 2nd offense and any offense thereafter. Cell phone will only be released to parent. Campus will hold the cell phone until the fine is paid.

Please speak to your child about this policy. Our number one goal is to ensure our students have an environment conducive to learning. Thank you in advance for your support.

Food/ Item Drop Offs Food/ Item Drop Offs

Parents, in an effort to keep our Scorpions safe, we are not allowing drop-offs. This includes Uber Eats and Door Dash (we will be turning away Uber Eats and Door Dash drivers). We can average of 30-40 daily lunch drop-offs with an additional 30-40 item (backpacks, instruments, shoes, lunch boxes, notebooks, snacks, water bottles, etc) drop-offs on a daily basis. Every single drop-off is an opportunity for someone to gain access to our building.

Please keep in mind that our security and monitoring staff have to look for your child to deliver their lunch or items. This takes our monitoring and security staff away from the job they are there for: to keep our Scorpions safe. We would also like our Scorpions to learn the importance of responsibility, so please ensure that they have all their supplies and items with them before the start of the school day.

School Visitors School Visitors

Parents please keep in mind that anyone who visits the school must remain in the front lobby area by the entrance. The only persons that are allowed past the lobby area have been granted permission and have a visitor's pass. Just a reminder, due to safety and security, an ID is mandatory to enter our campus during the school day. There an NO exceptions. The safety of our Scorpions is our top priority. Thank you

After School Pick-Up After School Pick-Up

After School Pick-up- Due to supervision and safety concerns, please be prompt when picking up your children. Prek and kinder dismissal is at 2:45pm and 1st through 8th grade dismissal is at 3:15pm. Please advise your child's teacher if you will be running late. If your schedule does not allow for you to pick up your child on time, please know that our campus cannot provide after school care. Our campus does have the YMCA after school program on site, and many daycares in the area provide student pickup. The only students that are allowed after school are those that are in tutoring (by invitation) and/or in athletics. All other students must be picked up at their dismissal time. We do not have staff members dedicated to supervising children after dismissal time. Thank you in advance for keeping your child safe.

Our goal is to keep your child safe at all times. While many procedures might seem to be an inconvenience, please know that your child's safety and well-being is our #1 priority. Thank you.

Need of/ Replacement of School Supplies Need of/ Replacement of School Supplies

If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact our CIS coordinator, Ms. Lopez at diana.lopez01@sisd.net.

As the school year progresses, students will be in need of school supply replacements. Classroom teachers will be reaching out during the school year to seek replacements for some of your child's school supplies. The most common supplies that need replacement are headphones, pencils, crayons, and notebooks. Please assist us in preparing for and providing supplies for your child(ren).

Please Be on Time/ Tardy Sweeps Please Be on Time/ Tardy Sweeps

All students are expected to arrive to school on time. All students MUST be in class and ready to learn by 7:45am. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 7:40am. Breakfast ends at 7:40am and instruction begins at 7:45am. The gates to the drop off will be closed at 7:45am. All students arriving after this time will need to enter through the front doors. Morning tardies will require a parent to sign their child in at the front desk.

Our campus conducts "Tardy Sweeps" for students in 3rd-8th grade. Tardy Sweeps will be conducted as follows:

  • 3rd-8th grade teachers will be advised when the bell rings to direct any student not in class at that time to report to personnel that will be providing entrance to class passes
  • Students who are late during the tardy sweeps will have to attend lunch detention (same day if late during AM tardy sweep, next day if late during PM tardy sweep)
  • There will be 1-2 tardy sweeps a day.
  • Sweeps are not to penalize students, but rather to instill the habit of being on time to classes.

Students will still be counted tardy even if a tardy sweep was not conducted. We will be calling and scheduling meeting with parents of ALL students who have excessive tardies. Please keep in mind that excessive tardies could result in after school detention and/or revocation of transfer. Thank you

Drop off Procedures/ Closure Time of Valet Gates Drop off Procedures/ Closure Time of Valet Gates

When using our drop off valet in the morning, please do not get out of your car. Teachers and staff will assist your child in getting off your car. If you feel that your child needs your assistance, please park and walk your child to the gate.

The gates on the elementary side and the door on the middle school side will close at exactly 7:45am. Please do not ask or expect staff to allow your child to enter when they are in the process of closing gates and doors. Please do not speed through the drop off in order to reach the gate before it closes. All of these create hazards and we do not want any one hurt in the process. Please arrive with plenty of time to allow a smooth transition for your child(ren).

As a reminder, students are only allowed to enter through the side entrances in the morning. Please do not drop off your child at the front of the campus to enter through the front doors. They will not be allowed entrance and will be required to walk to the side entrances.

Parent Parking - Parking Lots Parent Parking - Parking Lots

Please do not use the employee parking behind the campus when picking up your children. This parking will be blocked off. Please refrain from parking next to trash dumpsters, as that area is not a designated parking spot. There are many students and parents walking outside after pickup, and parking in these areas create a safety hazard. Please use the parent parking lot.

Crosswalks and Safety Procedures Crosswalks and Safety Procedures

Please observe all safety procedures and use crosswalks when walking your child to and from school. We need your assistance in using sidewalks and crosswalks when walking your child in the drop off zone. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
