Colton HillsSchool Bulletin 21 May 2026

Introduction by Mr D Gittins, Assistant Headteacher Introduction by Mr D Gittins, Assistant Headteacher

Warmer weather and the approaching half-term holiday means that we are now deep into exam season. It’s great to hear the reactions from our Year 11 and Year 13 students as they leave the exam room knowing that all of their hard work has paid off. Keep up the good work!

In this newsletter we have exciting plans on how SEND provision can be grown, a Sixth Form Theatre trip, a Year 10 Mathematics trip and Duke of Edinburgh adventures. Finally, tickets are now available for our school production – Alice in Wonderland Junior. If it’s anything like last year’s, it will be a wonderful show for the whole family and a joy to see so many talented performers up on stage.

We hope everyone enjoys their break this May bank holiday and we look forward to welcoming our students back for the final term in this academic year on Monday, 1 June.

As we enter the exam period, can we please ask that students are arriving on time for their exams? It is paramount that students are sat, ready for their exams so that they are not rushing around when they arrive in school. We advise adequate rest, nutritious meals and less screen time to focus during this period. Best of luck to all our students.

Our Year 13s are coming to an end of their time here with us at Colton Hills and we will miss them. For some of them, it has been a seven year journey and we have watched them grow into the fine young adults they are today. The sixth form team, including their tutors, threw them a farewell party in the theatre yesterday and they enjoyed nibbles and cakes as well as having a laugh at pictures of themselves from when they were younger. We wish them all the very best in their upcoming exams and please do stay in touch!

Sixth form trip to theatre

Our camera shy sixth formers took a trip to London on Wednesday, 29 April, to watch A Doll's House (translated from Danish). It is a play written by Norwegian playwright, Henrik Ibsen in 1800s and has been a well-performed play around the world.

We watched the Anya Reiss' modern day adaptation of A Doll's House at Almeida Theatre and throroughly enjoyed the provocative drama revolving around the characters. The cast delivered a wonderful performance and our students gave it a massive thumbs up!

Last weekend, our Duke of Edinburgh Silver students successfully completed their practice expedition around Cannock Chase and Cannock Wood, staying overnight at Beaudesert Scout Camp.

Throughout the weekend, students demonstrated excellent resilience, teamwork and independence whilst navigating challenging walking routes and preparing meals from scratch at camp. Staff were incredibly proud of the positive attitude and determination shown by all students during the expedition.

Two weeks ago , our Year 10 students were invited to a project run by ASMP and funded by the DFE that is working toward more students attaining the grades required to access Level 3 (A Level) Mathematics.

They had a day of mathematics at Wolverhampton University covering a variety of topics including a challenge against the other schools from Wolverhampton and Shropshire. The project will move into Year 11 so they will have more assistance in gaining the grades required next academic year. Thank you to our Maths department staff for making this possible.

Year 11s Signing off with shirts Year 11s Signing off with shirts

The annual tradition of Year 11s shirt signing took place on Friday, 22 May. It was chaotic, messy, loud but full of smiling faces! Students were exchanging autographs on their shirts and there were many really good designs created for this special event to remember their friends and their time in this school. We wish them all the very best of luck for their GCSE exams!
