Thank you to teachers who have supported and helped promote the OST Question of the Week! It has been motivating to see students ask questions about the initiative, take on the questions, showing their work, and applying test-taking strategies in response. I also appreciate those of you who have been able to fit it into your instruction—there is absolutely no expectation to do so, but your willingness to incorporate it is truly appreciated. A special thank you to Mr. Rozsa for using the Morning Show platform to share and highlight the OST Question of the Week.

Thermostat, not the Thermometer Thermostat, not the Thermometer

Team,

A thermometer reacts to the temperature around it, it rises and falls based on the environment. A thermostat, however, sets the temperature and regulates it. As educators, we must be the thermostat, not the thermometer. We set the emotional and instructional tone of our classrooms, calm, steady, and purposeful, regardless of what students may bring into the space. We are all uniquely different, but when brought together, we have the potential to create something truly magical and beautiful. When we act collectively, our work with students becomes deeply impactful. I am proud to be leading us in our ongoing work to close achievement gaps and expand opportunities for our students, both within CH-UH and beyond.

With just weeks remaining before OST, it is essential that we maintain incredibly high expectations for both student behavior and achievement across our campus. This is a strong moment to pause, reinforce, and refine your systems and routines to ensure classrooms remain calm, focused, and centered on learning. Begin each class with clear, consistent expectations. Be the solid presence in your room—calm, steady, and in control.

Individuals who can send me a reflection of how they are the thermostat, not the thermometer in their classroom will earn a Pulp Smoothie on me, this week!

Hi Team,

Last week at Noble, staff continued to reinforce strong expectations and positive behavior across campus; however, we also saw a concerning increase in fights and incidents of physical aggression. This reinforces the importance of being laser focused on early signs of conflict, changes in tone, body language, peer dynamics, and escalating behaviors, and addressing concerns immediately before they intensify.

As we move forward, we will be tightening supervision and clearly reinforcing expectations in high-traffic and high-risk areas, including the cafeteria and during indoor recess. Consistency, visibility, and proactive redirection will be critical in maintaining a safe and calm environment for students and staff.

Please continue to check the Daily Discipline Log each morning, send students to ALC with meaningful work, and contact families the same day a referral is submitted (logging the call in PLP). As we progress through Q3, keep the cognitive heavy lifting with students by using strategies such as wait time, Everybody Writes, cold call, and protected independent practice. Please complete the Data Day feedback survey, review the updated Sensory Break schedule, and reflect on the setting-level behavior log for trends and reteaching opportunities. February Allstars will be celebrated on 2/11, please make your selections, if you have not already done so.

Gun Safety Awareness - February 11 Gun Safety Awareness - February 11

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

In the coming weeks across CH-UH, as part of our continued PBIS and Social Emotional Learning efforts, all CH-UH schools are required to provide routine expectation assemblies focused on safety and prevention, including Gun Safety Awareness. We join our Board of Education in their commitment to ensuring our students and families have the tools and knowledge to know what to do if they encounter a gun in educational institutions, public spaces and private residences. Given the access to firearms that people in the United States have, we believe it is important to have explicit messaging to support the safety of our students, staff and families.

These assemblies will explicitly reference guns and reinforce the district’s See Something, Say Something expectation and established reporting process. This work is preventive, age-appropriate, and planned, not in response to any incident. I will lead our assembly on February 11. Mrs. Ohlinger will be visible and available during and after assemblies for students. I will notify families of this initiative, in advance, allowing them the opportunity to opt their children out of that portion of the assembly.

Additional parent programming is being planned in collaboration with the district’s family and community partners. Thank you for supporting a consistent, calm, and student-centered approach to school safety.

CLC/Noble Black History Month Showcase CLC/Noble Black History Month Showcase

We are beginning to plan our Black History Month Showcase, scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2026, and we would love to invite teachers, students and staff to participate.

The purpose of this event is to celebrate and honor the contributions of Black Americans through arts, culture, and education, while giving students an opportunity to share their learning through performances and visual displays.

We are hoping to include:

  • Student performances (music, poetry, dance, spoken word, etc.)

  • Student artwork for a school-wide Art Walk

  • Classroom contributions connected to Black history, culture, or influential figures

Participation can be flexible—this may look like a full class project, a small group performance, or individual student work. We want this to feel meaningful and manageable.

If you are interested in participating or would like to brainstorm ideas for your class, please complete the Noble Black History Month Celebration form by Wednesday February 11, 2026. More details regarding setup, space, and timing will be shared as plans are finalized. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions.

Student Retention Protocol Student Retention Protocol

It's that time of the year to complete the recommendation process for those students who might be considered for retention. Retention should primarily be considered only in K-2. However, if you are a 3-5 teacher and are considering a retention recommendation, let me know. Here is a general timeline for the process...

Now - Feb. 13th: Have conversations with the student's parents regarding your concern and introduce the idea of retention (if you haven't already).

Now - Feb 20: Complete and turn in data supporting your concern, including the Light's Retention Scale. You can find a copy in black folders in my mailbox and you can turn it into the same folder (look for your grade-specific black folder).

Feb 18 or Feb 25 - Meet with myself and Admin. to discuss your recommendation

March 4, 11, or 18,- Team will meet with parents to discuss the concern and the option of retention. No official decision to retain will be made at this time.

Early May - follow up meetings with parents to discuss progress and/or the recommendation for retention.

Questions? Feel free to ask!

In February's GLTM, you all will have a 90 minute training on how to access and utilize reports within Lexia. Following the training, you'll have 30 minutes to dive into your reports.

Lastly, you all will have 60 minutes to share an instructional practice within Wonders that has impacted writing. Sharing will take place within a small group. For those of you in the Clarity Cohort, sharing will follow a similar format to the small group sharing that took place during session 3 in January!
