HMS Unified Bocce Team Rolls Into Plymouth
On Wednesday, October 29, the HMS Unified Bocce Team joined middle schools from throughout the area at Plymouth Community Intermediate School for their Fall Jamboree. Our athletes and their teammates had a great time at the event, which celebrated the spirit of inclusivity through some fun and friendly competition with teams from Dartmouth Middle School, Bourne Middle School Weymouth's Chapman Middle School, Plymouth Community Intermediate School and Plymouth South Middle School.
Job well done to all those who support our students in this incredible program!

In preparation for their upcoming Latin roots vocabulary quiz, The Barracudas have been competing in a “boom, clap, snatch” review game. This activity combines rhythm, quick thinking and competition. After performing a “boom clap” pattern and listening to a vocabulary definition, students race to “snatch” the card with the correct vocabulary term on it. Students reinforce word meanings while building focus, teamwork, and have fun with a little friendly competition!
HMS is Here to Help
We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach is for food support for the upcoming holidays.
Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel at your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights to confidentiality.
The Green Turtle Team is Thinking Spring . . .
The Green Turtle Team is hoping to bring a bit more color to our school through the addition of more flowers to our campus. We would gladly accept any donation of bulbs to be planted this fall that would be blooming this spring.
We plan to plant this Thursday 11/6, weather permitting, so any donations would be most helpful before that date. However, we will happily plant any donations received after that date and before the ground freezes.
Thank you for your support!

We have been going to Pats Peak for 20+ years. We like Pats because it is a small/medium size mountain with good proximity to Hingham. We have a routine and we stick to it.
We have great teacher chaperones that monitor the kids in the lodge and on the slopes. We set up our “base camp” in the Valley Lodge with a big red “H”ingham flag. There is always an HMS chaperone there.
Pats sends us our lift tickets in advance so we are completely organized before we even leave HMS.
We use Yankee Line buses. They are bright yellow coach buses that you have likely seen on the highway. Yankee only employs competent, professional drivers and has a strict focus on safety. We communicate with Yankee, ad-nauseum, regarding traffic, weather and safety.
We leave HMS at 5:45 AM and arrive back here at 5:30 PM.
Before getting off the buses at Pats we review several time and safety reminders with the kids.
Pats Peak has a highly trained ski patrol and a full medical area. Prior to each trip our school nurses review the list of students and send us with the medication and necessities that each child might need. They will often make arrangements with parents in advance.
We stop skiing at 3:00 PM and leave Pats at 3:15.
Check out the Pats Peak website at patspeak.com
I’m sure we are forgetting something. Always feel free to contact us at school with any questions or have the kids see us between classes or at lunch!
Mr. Riordan, Mrs. Canney, and Mr. McCulloch

Food Support for Families and Free and Reduced Lunch Program
We want to assure you that even with the potential pause in SNAP benefits beginning in November, free, nutritious breakfast and lunch will continue to be available to all students each school day. You can view our menus here.
Food security resources are available, including Project Bread's FoodSource Hotline, https://projectbread.org/foodsource-hotline (1-800-645-8333). FoodSource hotline counselors, in 180 languages, can help families find food assistance through other sources such as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and local food pantries. The Hingham Food Pantry is located at Second Parish Church on 685 Main Street (781) 740-8180.
Want to help? Consider donating unopened, non-perishable, and unexpired foods.
Donations can be made at the Hingham Food Pantry, as well as Stop & Shop, Sotheby's, Jack Conway, and Coldwell Banker.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Although school meals are free, we encourage families to still apply for meal benefits.
Families can apply at any time throughout the school year, should their household situation change. If you think you might qualify, this could provide access to additional benefits within the district. Applications can be completed online at schoolcafe.com, or you can find hard copies on our Food services site or the district's food service page. For a mailed application, please contact Marisalyn Biagini at mbiagini@hinghamschools.org.
