Veterans Day
The STMA High School Veterans Day program was held on November 14th as a heartfelt tribute to those who have selflessly served our country. From the touching speeches to the solemn moments of reflection, the program successfully conveyed our deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans. Our students' participation was especially moving, and their sincerity in expressing appreciation for our veterans added a special touch to the occasion. The respectful atmosphere that permeated the event truly reflected our collective commitment to recognizing and honoring the dedication of our service members. We want to express our gratitude to everyone involved in organizing and participating in the program. Their efforts made the event a meaningful and memorable experience for all.
Mental Health
One of the most powerful, yet simple, self-awareness techniques is guided imagery. Guided imagery can have many health-related physical and emotional benefits. It can help you feel less nervous or upset, be less bothered by pain or achieve a goal such as an athletic or academic achievement.
Through guided imagery you can learn to use your imagination to actually change how you are feeling and what you are focused on.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Trimester Two Schedule Changes
Please be aware that schedule changes for trimester two are on a very limited basis and only for the reasons listed below as classes are very full. As the trimester approaches we will also be balancing class sizes the best we can. Your schedule on student view will be the most up-to-date, please do not follow the copy you received at the beginning of the year when the trimester starts.
Requests can only be made for the following reasons:
- The student does not have the
prerequisite(s)
- The student failed a class
- There is an obvious error (two classes at the same time)
- To add a class that is needed to graduate - The schedule is unbalanced
Schedule changes will not be made for:
- Request a specific teacher / to switch sections for the same course to get a different teacher - Request a specific trimester / to switch sections of the same course to change trimester
- Change lunch periods
- Have a class with a friend
- Leave to attend non-school sanctioned
occupational activity
College Visits
Although finding time to get on a college campus for a tour is sometimes difficult, we have opportunities to connect with college reps through both in-person (in the Counseling Office during SNAP) and virtual meetings. This is a great time to get your questions about individual colleges answered directly by their admissions representatives. You can find a list of upcoming college rep visits here.
Senior FAFSA Information
The Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Application is currently under construction. In the meantime, Minnesota Goes to College will be hosting a variety of Zoom sessions regarding the financial aid process.
Trade School/Technical College after high school
Many families forget to check out technical colleges as an option after high school. This is an especially important choice to consider if you are a student who didn’t enjoy the traditional school setting like high school. Visit 15 Best Jobs for Trade School Graduates
for information on the top-paying technical careers.
Seniors
Visit the counseling office/Student Support Website for all your senior information needs. Topics range from sending transcripts to applying to college & FAFSA! If your plans for after high school are undecided schedule an appointment with your school counselor to talk further about your opportunities.
Virginia Suarez - School-Based Mental Health Program
"I am the school-based therapist with Canvas Health for STMA High. I provide mental health services to students and their families during the school day and Canvas Health's school-based program prides itself in fully embedding our services within the school and being an active member of the school community. Canvas Health's goal is to remove barriers to treatment and we work to identify the students who otherwise would not be able to access services outside of school. Some of the services I provide are individual, family, and group therapy, consultation with school and community resources, and trainings for staff and students on a variety of mental health topics. I am trained in several treatment modalities, including CBT, DBT, and EMDR, among many others. If you are interested in receiving school-based services, please reach out to your student's school counselor to learn more and make a referral."
