🎨🎨Please go see student artwork at the Bonner Spring Public LIbrary through the end of January!

🎨🎨Thank- you!

The young artist reception December 8th at the Bonner Springs Public LIbrary was a HUGE success! Thanks so much for all the young Artists, parents, choir members and families who were able to attend, view their artwork, listen to the choir and view the artwork from Delaware Ridge, Bonner Springs Elementary and Edwardsville Elementary! We are so glad that you came out to support the students and enjoy cookies, punch, the artwork and the choir performance with us! Parents we appreciate you taking the time to bring your artists to the event! Remember you can view your artwork in the Bonner Springs Public Library for all of December and January if you did not get a chance to see it. Please take the time to view the student work! They did an amazing job!

Art Exploratory Class

Students will attend a weekly 50 minute art class on a 3 day A/B/C day rotational schedule. That means that students will attend art 2 times a week for 50 minutes each. Below you will find Mrs. Braack’s classroom norms/expectations, Behavior protocol, Grading policy, Art standards, & the Schedule.

Art Leadership Tickets

I choose two students every class that are displaying amazing leadership behavior. I will fill out an art leadership ticket and send this home with the students. Some behaviors I am looking for are:

Always listening for directions

Imagining new things

Talking quietly

Staying safe

Treating others Kindly

Respecting the room

Classroom Norms/Expectations

Students will enter the classroom, find their seat, help read learning targets out loud and discuss and listen to a read aloud story, While the story runs they will be given art supplies at the top of their table. They often follow a drawing tutorial online or a paper drawing guide and add details from their own imagination to personalize it and make it their own. They will draw, outline with sharpie, erase and color with various supplies. We will be using paint, oil pastels, clay, yarn, colored pencils, etc., and they will learn how to use and care for each supply and clean up properly. There are times we will go outside to draw from observation or use sidewalk chalk to sketch on the cement. Students will be able to:

  1. Eyes on speaker and mouth closed when speaker is talking

  2. Follow directions - follow the steps given to you at the beginning of class.

  3. Raise your hand - wait to be called on before speaking.

  4. Respect and use art supplies properly- Take good care of art supplies, do not waste supplies and use procedures to properly care for and use art supplies.

  5. Clean up your area on time - 5 min. Before the end of class we clean up and put supplies away. Make sure you help so your tablemates do not have to clean up after you.

  6. Help others around you - if you get done early help others

Art Bragging Wall

I will choose two or 3 pictures from each class and put them up on the art brag wall by Grade level. I am excited to add this to show students that are working hard on their assignments and showing perseverance to get their art assignment done while doing their best.

Art Display

Throughout the building you will notice several displays from the office all the way down to the music hallway. We begin and end each class with learning targets and vocabulary rich lessons. We often do call and response exercises to remember this art vocabulary. Things we will cover will be elements of art : line, shape, space, value, form, texture and color. Here is a short video link that explains the elements of art briefly- it is a quick overview you can watch together- it is only 57 seconds long. See abive for video link.

Extra credit Fun Drawing

You can complete one or more of these drawing activities at home. If you bring them in to show me before or after school I will give you extra credit. They are for fun -- so use what you have at home for supplies-- If you don't have crayons draw with pencil and use shading. If you don't have paper use an envelope from junk mail. Use paint or markers if you don't have the supplies listed to complete the assignment-- have fun with it. Excited to see what you create.
