March 2025 Edition
Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!!!
Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!
Welcome to the March edition of our monthly school newsletter. I hope this message finds each of you well. As we step into March, I want us to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable achievements and events that have occurred within our school community.
Our students continue to showcase outstanding dedication, with many achieving notable academic milestones. We have had students to compete and earn many accolades, including first place winners in the District Social Science Fair and the District Technology Innovation Competition. I commend their hard work and perseverance, as well as the unwavering support provided by our dedicated teachers and staff to make these achievements possible.
Beyond the classroom, our students have and are continuing to excel in various extracurricular activities, from sports to arts and beyond. One highlight was the Black History Month Program, which highlighted beautiful and well-orchestrated performances by many of our students and staff members. The commitment to personal growth and teamwork is beyond admirable and amazing, and we should be so proud of the accomplishments. Let’s continue to show our support as our students represent our school community.
Our school remains deeply committed to fostering a sense of community and inclusivity. As we did during the month of February, throughout March we will be organizing several events and initiatives aimed at strengthening bonds between students, parents, and staff. I encourage everyone to participate as we continue to build a vibrant school community. Stay tuned to our various social media outlets, newsletters and our webpage so you can know what is happening and remain involved.
As always, we strongly encourage open communication between parents and teachers. Your involvement and feedback are invaluable in ensuring the success of our school and fostering the well-being of our students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
I want to again express my sincere gratitude to all of you for the continued support and dedication. Together, we are “Rebuilding the Legacy” of Jean Childs Young Middle School, one day at a time. Our future is incredibly bright!!!
With Gratitude,
Ronald Garlington - Principal

Great Things Happening at JCY
Exploring Creativity & Digital Skills at Adobe Atlanta
Ms. Park’s technology students recently visited the Adobe Atlanta Office for an exciting, hands‑on learning experience in digital media creation. During the visit, students participated in a video‑editing workshop led by Adobe staff, where they produced their own Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos. Topics ranged from Earth Day and the Water Cycle to Civil Rights Movements, pollution awareness, and other issues they personally cared about.
The field trip supported multiple ISTE Student Standards, including:
- Creative Communicator: Students planned, designed, and produced original multimedia messages, using Adobe’s professional tools to communicate their ideas effectively through video.
- Knowledge Constructor: As they researched and selected topics for their PSAs, students gathered information from various sources and organized their findings into meaningful, purpose‑driven content.
In addition, students practiced responsible and innovative use of AI tools, including Raina from MagicSchool, which they used as a brainstorming partner to help refine ideas, structure scripts, and explore creative directions for their projects.
This real‑world learning opportunity empowered students to think critically, express their voices, and experience the impact of technology as creators—not just consumers.
The ESOL Department at Young Middle School is proud to partner with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and International Affairs (MOIIA) and Georgia State University interns to provide a three-part empowerment workshop series for our 7th and 8th grade multilingual learners.
This collaborative initiative is designed to help students recognize their strengths, build resilience, and envision limitless possibilities for their futures.
The series launched on February 26 with a dynamic Mini Field Day in the gym. Through team-building games and physical challenges, students explored themes of perseverance, strength, and resilience — drawing powerful connections between physical endurance and the emotional resilience they demonstrate daily as multilingual learners.
The second workshop featured an engaging panel discussion focused on life beyond middle school. Students discussed what to expect in high school, explored college pathways, and reflected on their skills, interests, and long-term goals. Panelists emphasized that bilingualism and multicultural experiences are not barriers, but superpowers that open doors to leadership, service, and career opportunities.
The final experience in this series will include a guided tour of Georgia State University’s campus, where students will see firsthand what higher education can look like for them. This visit is designed to make college feel tangible, accessible, and within reach.
Our ESOL scholars continue to demonstrate that their multilingualism is a gift — one that strengthens our school community and positions them for success in an increasingly global world. We are grateful to MOIIA and Georgia State University for investing in our students and affirming that their voices, identities, and languages matter.
