PRINCIPAL UPDATE PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Sheiko Families,

As we move through this exciting time of the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible growth and accomplishments of our students. From the classroom to the stage, the playing field to community service projects, our students continue to show dedication, resilience, and kindness.

This month, we are excited to introduce Best Self Medals in every classroom! These medals are awarded daily to students who demonstrate kindness, hard work, academic achievement, and personal growth. It’s a wonderful way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of our students. Be sure to ask your child about it, and check out the great pictures of our Best Self Medal winners!

We also had a fantastic visit from the West Bloomfield Fire Department, who gave a presentation to each grade level. Be sure to talk with your student(s) about what they learned! This is a great time to review your family’s fire safety plan—do you have one? Are your smoke alarms working? We are so thankful to our local firefighters for spending the day with us and keeping our community safe.

Our Big Announcement this week is about progress reports! Be sure to check your child’s PowerSchool account Saturday morning for these important academic updates. Staying informed about your child’s progress helps us work together to support their success.

Partnership with families is key to our success, and I am grateful for your ongoing support. Whether it’s attending school events, volunteering, or simply encouraging your child at home, your involvement makes a difference. Together, we are creating an environment where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Looking ahead, we have some exciting events on the horizon! We hope to see many families on Monday, February 24th. Sheiko is presenting in the ICenter at West Bloomfield High School for the Board of Education meeting. Be sure to check the calendar for upcoming activities and opportunities to engage with our school community. As always, my door is open—I welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas.

Thank you for being a part of our school family! Gooooooooooooooo Lakers!

Warmly,
Blaine McDowell

This week, firefighter/paramedics spent the day with our students talking about fire safety. They learned how sleeping with your bedroom door closed, keeps the smoke away from you if there is a fire. They also learned about smoke alarms, having a family escape plan, why you should not play with fire, and more. Some of the teachers got to try on our fire gear so the students could learn about our protective equipment. Everyone had a blast!

Please remember to test your smoke alarms and make sure that

you clean the lint from your dryer and vent.

PLEASE BE AT YOUR CHILD'S BUS STOP PLEASE BE AT YOUR CHILD'S BUS STOP

Please be reminded that parents/caregivers are expected to be at the bus stop in the afternoon. If there is not an adult at the bus stop, the child will be brought back to school for parent pick up. If a child is returned to school three or more times, this could result in loss of bus transportation, and we don't want that to happen. In addition, students may not walk to a convenience store, for example, and wait for a parent or caregiver. The bus driver needs to see that the parent/caregiver is present. Thank you for keeping all of our Sheiko Lakers safe!

CAR LINE REMINDER CAR LINE REMINDER

Please turn RIGHT coming out of car line.

We also need students to continue to exit on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Safety is our priority. Thank you so much!
