EMS Families,
Although it was a short week, it was certainly a busy one at EMS! Thank you to all the families who took the time to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) and share in their experiences at our school at conferences. We deeply appreciate your ongoing partnership and feel truly honored that you entrust us with your children each day.
Our staff and the EMS PTO thanks families for their generosity for conference meals. A huge thank you to everyone who helped provide conference meals for our 40+ middle school staff this week! Your generosity & support helped show our amazing staff how much they are appreciated!
Tomorrow, as students are enjoying their morning without their alarm clocks, our staff will be participating in professional learning that is rooted in horizontal alignment acorss all 3 middle schools.
EMS STAFF AWARDS: RESPECT
Last month, we were able recognize two staff members, Mrs. Snyder and Mr. McVicker, who consistently exemplify respect in their interactions with both students and colleagues. Through their kindness, patience, and thoughtful communication, they help create a school community where everyone feels valued and supported. We are grateful for the positive example they set each day!
Apple Crunch
A big THANK YOU to our generous local orchards for supplying the delicious apples for everyone to enjoy during Apple Crunch! We are so grateful for our community partners who help make these fun, healthy experiences possible for our students and staff. Thank you for helping us celebrate the season, support local agriculture, and enjoy a little crunch together!

Standard Response Protocol: LOCKDOWN
LOCKDOWN Locks, lights, out of sight.
Lockdown: Students are trained to move away from sight, maintain silence, and not open the door. Adults and staff are trained to recover students from the hallway, lock the classroom door, and prepare to evade or defend. A Lockdown is only initiated when there is an active threat inside or very close to the building. The natural inclination for parents is to go to the school during a Lockdown. Understandable, but problematic. If there is a threat inside the building, law enforcement will be responding along with many other first responders. It is unlikely that parents will be granted access to the building or campus. Please refrain from coming to campus during a Lockdown. Please follow directions communicated by the district through district communication channels, such as SchoolMessenger. Do not rely on social media pages.
For more details about our Standard Response Protocol and our other actions, please visit our website. There, you'll find an overview of these actions along with a link to a flyer with information for parents. Thanks for partnering with us to keep our schools safe.
EMS CLUBS:
All EMS students participated in a survery to indicate which clubs they would like to have at EMS. Based on that survey data, we are planning to provide the following clubs to ALL 6-8th Grade Students!

As a way to support the Michigan SEL standards of relationship skills, social awareness, self management, self awareness, and responsible decision making, all 8th grade students will have the opportunity to attend Craig’s Cruisers on Friday, October 30th. *NEW* Report Absences in PowerSchool
Parents can now report students absent using PowerSchool Parent Portal! This feature can be used to report an absence for the current day or to schedule future planned absences. Please click here for more information.
Please note: this feature cannot be used to report absences that occurred on previous school days.
If you are dropping and picking up your child from the main entrance, please have your ID with you when picking up your child and remind emergency contacts to as well. If you enter the HS office, they are going to politely ask you to drive around to our side.
As a reminder, please call ahead when your child is coming to school late from an appointment or will need to leave early. This will allow us to properly document his or her absence and make sure he or she is ready for your pick up.
If you are choosing to not use PowerSchool reporting, please direct all attendance matters to emsattendance@fhps.net or call 616-493-8856.
