St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER |WEEK 1 TERM 2 2026
Good afternoon everyone,
Big thanks to our parents for helping their children to return enthusiastically, ready to learn, reconnect, and embrace the opportunities ahead.
Today, we gathered as a school community for our Anzac Day ceremony. It was a respectful and meaningful service, and I extend my sincere thanks to all who were involved in organising and leading this important event on the school calendar. As we look ahead to the long weekend and enjoy the Monday public holiday, may we also take time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of all our soldiers - the brave men and women who gave and still give so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. Their courage and service will always be remembered with deep gratitude.
The playground is one of the most important places for children to learn some of life’s lessons, however these often take time. Navigating the ups and downs can be challenging, particularly for younger children who are still developing the skills they need to manage their emotions and develop quality relationships. At times, they may act impulsively, see things only from their own point of view, struggle to follow the rules of a game, feel jealous of others, experience moments of being left out and they may even say things that are unkind or untrue. These moments, while difficult, are a natural and important part of growing up.
Our role as parents and teachers is to walk alongside them, to support, guide and encourage, and help them to make increasingly kind, thoughtful, generous, fair and respectful choices. Growth does not happen overnight; it requires time, patience, and a strong belief that, with consistent support, guidance, challenge and care, every child will get there in the end. Parents, thank you again for working with us on your child’s journey.
A big ‘shout out’ to some of our Year 6 students who have been mentoring our Year 2 students during soccer games throughout the end of last term and again this week. These students have truly risen to the challenge, modelling not only how to play the game, but also how to follow the rules, show good sportsmanship, and manage big emotions when things don’t go their way. Their patience, leadership, and willingness to support our younger students has been wonderful to see, and they are making a positive difference in helping build a more inclusive and respectful playground for all. Well done!
Enjoy the long weekend and all the very best

In the Catholic tradition, our parish and school are closely connected.
The parish, led by Father Giovanni, provides spiritual leadership and is responsible for ensuring we nurture students’ faith alongside academic learning. The school supports the parish by helping children grow in Catholic values, preparing them for sacraments, and encouraging family participation in parish life.
It’s essentially a partnership — the parish is the faith community, and the school is one of its key ministries. For more information about our Parish, please click here:
