Conferences are Coming this FRIDAY!
Parent-Teacher Conferences: A Time for Celebration and Growth
Dear Coupeville Families,
I am writing to remind you about our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025. These conferences represent a valuable opportunity for us to partner together in supporting your child's educational journey.
Why Your Attendance Matters
Research consistently shows that strong family engagement is one of the most powerful predictors of student success. When parents and teachers collaborate, students achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, background, or the school they attend. Your participation in these conferences:
- Provides you with specific insights about your child's academic progress and social development
- Allows teachers to share celebrations of your child's accomplishments this year
- Creates an opportunity to establish collaborative goals for the remainder of the school year
- Demonstrates to your child the importance you place on their education
Making the Most of Your Conference
To help you prepare, consider bringing:
- Questions about your child's progress or curriculum
- Information about your child's interests or challenges they've mentioned at home
- Ideas for how you might support learning at home
Scheduling Your Conference
If you haven't already scheduled your conference time, please contact your child's teacher or our school office as soon as possible. We are committed to finding a time that works for your schedule.
These conferences are a highlight of our school year—a time when we can celebrate growth, reflect on progress, and collaboratively set goals that will help us finish the school year strong. We look forward to seeing you on March 7th!
Sincerely,
Shannon Leatherwood
Superintendent
⚡ Shocking Science & Freezing Fun at CES! ❄️
From hair-raising electricity demos (seriously, check out Mac B.’s new gravity-defying hairstyle 🤯) to freezing objects with super-cold liquid gas, it was a day packed with wow moments. Science has never been this cool—literally.
Big thanks to our visiting scientists for sparking curiosity and making learning an absolute blast! 🔬✨
Staff Spotlight:
🌟 Staff Spotlight: Lisa Yoder 🌟
If CMS ran on magic, Lisa Yoder would be the wizard behind it all. Or, more accurately… the Yoda. 🟢✨
Step into Lisa’s office, and you’ll immediately notice the Star Wars love—especially the many wise, green, and powerful reminders of the character she resonates with most: Yoda. And honestly? It fits. Like the legendary Jedi Master, Lisa is calm under pressure, full of wisdom, and always there to guide those who need help.
Her colleagues describe her as:
💙 Reliable, compassionate, proactive, patient, resourceful, adaptable, fun, kind, inclusive, dedicated, and—above all—unstoppable.
She knows every student by name and takes the time to know their stories, offering them a safe, calm, and welcoming space. Whether it’s handling first-day locker chaos, supporting overwhelmed students, or problem-solving on the fly, Lisa does it all with patience, kindness, and an efficiency that defies logic. No task is too big. No detail too small. Do, or do not—there is no try.
Lisa, we don’t know how you do it, but CMS wouldn’t be the same without you. Thank you for everything! 💙

MOHAI or Bust! 7th Grade WA State History Field Trip

Thanks to a generous grant from the Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools, all ticket and transportation costs are covered! To participate, students must submit a signed permission form to their history teacher by Thursday, March 6th. Want to join the adventure? We need 12 district-approved chaperones to help make this trip a success! We can’t wait for another fantastic trip!
March: National Nutrition Month!
March is a special month in school food service as we recognize National Nutrition Month and National School Breakfast Week—two observances that highlight the importance of healthy eating and access to nutritious meals for all students.
At the heart of these celebrations is our Connected Food Program, which is dedicated to providing students with wholesome, scratch-made meals that nourish their bodies and fuel their learning. National Nutrition Month encourages making informed food choices and embracing balanced eating habits, which aligns perfectly with our mission to serve fresh, locally sourced, and thoughtfully prepared meals every day.
National School Breakfast Week reminds us of the crucial role breakfast plays in student success. Thanks to our scratch-based breakfast program at the elementary school students start their day with real, nutritious food that helps them focus, learn, and thrive. By making breakfast more accessible and incorporating high-quality ingredients, we are ensuring that every child has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy start to their day. We strive to offer the same possibilities to our secondary campus soon.
Through these initiatives, we continue to build a strong school food culture—one that values real food, supports local farmers, and fosters a sense of community in our cafeterias.
