Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day 11/14/24
On Thursday, November 14th, we will honor civil rights icon Ruby Bridges by participating in the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! Ruby Bridges was only six years old when she courageously integrated an all-white elementary school in 1960, becoming a powerful symbol of resilience and change. This day encourages us to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the courage it takes to make a difference.
We invite all students, families, and staff to walk to school together, celebrating the spirit of courage and community. Hosted by SERVES and Affinity Mentors.
WHERE: Piedmont Park (Beach Elementary will hold their celebration at Beach)
WHEN: Thursday, November 14th 7:45 to 8:15 AM
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
November 14 - 16 7:00 PM AHT
It is almost that time to enjoy our performing arts production. Millennium's very own Collin Cameron is playing the lead role! It is not to early to get your tickets now and secure your seat to one of three performances November 14 - 16. We hope you can make it to see some great acting and support our burgeoning theater program!
All shows start at 7 pm at the AHT.

A Message from Your Counselors
I had to share a picture of my late fall winter harvest. We planted the avocado tree over 5 years ago, and only once did it fruit with one avocado. Unfortunately it fell off the tree before it was ready so I never had the chance to try it. This year we have two avocados and I picked it in time and look forward to it ripening! The persimmon tree had less fruit but they were bigger. And I share this because it makes me happy and hopeful and is giving me the pause I need to reset. I hope you are all taking care of yourselves, that you are surrounding yourselves with people who keep you steady, and that you find the inner strength to keep on keeping on. Enjoy the long weekend. And thank you to all of our veterans who serve and have served for our country.
Speaking of veterans, a Bay Area sophomore in the US Naval Academy reached out to see if there were any students interested in learning more about the US Naval Academy. He is from Burlingame and will be available during the Thanksgiving Break if any students/parents want to learn more about the application process. If you’re interested, his name is MIDN Archer Grenier and his email is 272460@usna.edu. (FYI, this is not someone PUSD is promoting, simply giving information that parents/students will vet for themselves.)
ALL Students:
Marking Period 2 ended November 1st and we are officially into our last 6 weeks of school before the end of the semester. Students, this is the VERY last marking period where you will turn in your work to earn the full 5 credits for semester 1. Once we are done with semester one and if you are behind in credits, you will roll over into Accelerate, our remediation online program. While these courses are A-G approved, they are NOT NCAA approved. So if you are a student athlete, you MUST earn your credits in the classes in which you are currently enrolled.
Looking forward to our gratitude celebration next week.

Attendance Policy Review
Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.
Reporting and Excusing an Absence
When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.

Giving Campaign Reaches $2 Million—Support Needed to Set Students Up for Success
PEF is thrilled to share that the annual Giving Campaign has raised an impressive $2 million in contributions. Yet, as we aim to provide outstanding educational resources and opportunities, additional support is needed.
Rick, a parent of a recent Harvard graduate, shared his gratitude for his daughter Genevieve’s education in Piedmont City Unified School District (PUSD). "Our daughter received a top-notch education through her years at Havens, PMS, and PHS, with access to a strong mix of regular, Honors, and AP courses, plus great extracurriculars and friendships," he said.
Success stories from alumni like Genevieve, Chloe Fineman (cast member on "Saturday Night Live"), and Dr. Gary Ruvkun (Nobel Prize winner) highlight the impact of PUSD’s educational support.
