Dear Families,

Thank you for your continued support as our teachers are knee-deep in providing quality instruction. Our students are currently undergoing beginning-of-the-year testing in reading and math, which provides valuable information that allows our staff to personalize instruction for all students.

Weekly Team Tuesday Power Meetings will begin for all teaching teams this week. General education, Inner Core, ESOL, and SPED teachers will participate in collaborative meetings with administrators and instructional leaders to frame instruction for the upcoming week. These collaborative meetings ensure quality lesson planning and coordinated supports, enabling all students to access the grade-level curriculum.

As we prepare to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite interested parents and guardians to join the coordinating committee. Please reach out to Ms. Raimundi at maria.raimundi@k12.dc.gov if you'd like to participate.

Additionally, our annual Back-to-School Night is next week on Thursday, September 19th at 5:30 PM. Here are some tips for attending:

  • Bring a pen and paper to take notes on important information.
  • Connect with other families to build friendships and support networks.
  • Ask questions during the session for any clarifications needed.
  • Learn about communication methods with teachers throughout the year.
  • Explore volunteer opportunities in the classroom.
  • Understand class rules and the classroom management plan.
  • Review the weekly schedule and other key dates.

We appreciate those parents and guardians who have been picking up their students on time from the Hamilton Street bus stop. However, we have experienced several instances of late pickups recently, with some parents arriving up to an hour and a half late. Please note that all teachers and staff members are released at 3:30 PM. Late pickups affect our teachers personally and financially, and also impact our local school budget. To ensure a smooth operation, we will begin restricting transportation for students who are picked up late starting this week. Timely pickups are crucial for our school community. Thank you for your understanding and support and have a wonderful week.

Lastly, this is the last issue that will be sent home in a hard copy with the students. Going forward, the newsletter and its attachments will be sent via Remind, email and posted to the school website at www.truesdelltrojans.org. Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Best regards,

Principal Foster

Estimadas Familias,

Atentamente,

Director Foster

Important Notice Regarding Elementary School Attendance for SY24-25

For the 2024-2025 school year, DC Public Schools (DCPS) elementary schools will

implement the "60/40" attendance policy as required by the DC Office of the State

Superintendent of Education (OSSE). This means if your child attends school for less than

60% of the day, it will be tracked as a 60/40 absence. This applies to both excused and

unexcused absences. (See 5-A DCMR § 2199.1.)

To support your child being marked present for the full day, please make sure they arrive

on time and stay until the close of the school day every day. Please note that the following

late arrivals and/or early dismissals will result in your child being considered legally absent

for the day:

• Students arriving after 11:25 a.m.

• Students leaving before 12:35 p.m.

• Students arriving late and leaving early and missing more than 40% of the

scheduled school day.

The 60/40 attendance policy will continue to be implemented at the secondary level,

meaning students must attend at least 60% of their class periods to be marked present for

the day.

You can review the complete DCPS Attendance and Truancy Policy for additional

information.

(Vea 5-A DCMR § 2199.1.)
