Hi Eagle Familles,
Happy Thanksgiving! As I reflect on all that I am grateful for during this Thanksgiving season, I would be remiss not to mention how proud I am to serve the Flossmoor Hills community. It is truly my pleasure to work with families that are dedicated, compassionate and demonstrate stedfast values in education. I wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday!
We celebrated American Education Week with lots of reading initiatives, pumpkin painting and cheerleading fun! It was great seeing so many of our students involved in the various programs.
Please remember there will be NO SCHOOL for students this week, November 20th - November 24th. Parent teacher conferences will be held on Monday, Nov. 20th and Tues. Nov. 21st.
We have some updates in the newsletter for this week. As always, please feel to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at 708-647-7100.

From The Case Manager's Office
Hello Flossmoor Hills Families.
Free Appropriate Public Education [FAPE] and Least Restrictive Environment [LRE]
FAPE and LRE are two important components of special education. Students with disabilities must be educated at no additional cost to their families and their education must be delivered in the least restrictive environment [LRE] possible, where they have access to the general education curriculum and typically developing peers.
LRE’s are determined by the special education team during the placement portion of IEP meetings. Placements become more restrictive as students are pulled out or removed from their general education peers to receive services, even if those services are minimal such as 30 minutes per week. We typically discuss three options or placements which may look different for different students, for example,
Student A LRE:
Least Restrictive: General education classroom without related services (ie. speech). Team Rejects
More Restrictive: General education classroom with related services (ie. speech). Team Accepts
Most Restrictive: Instructional classroom in district with related services (ie. speech). Team Rejects
Note: The instructional classroom is where a student receives academic instruction by a special education teacher throughout the day.
Student B LRE:
Least Restrictive: Instructional classroom in district without related services (ie. speech). Team Rejects
More restrictive: Instructional classroom in district with related services (ie. speech). Team Rejects
Most Restrictive: Private Therapeutic Day School. Team Accepts
If you have a concern or a few questions, please contact me directly at 708 647-7439 or email me at hpasha@sd161.org; I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Habeeba (ha-bee-buh) Pasha
