5 Powerful Reasons Your Child Should Be in School Every Day
Dear Franklin Academy Families,
Attendance matters. It may sound simple, but one of the most important things families can do to support their child’s academic success is also one of the most basic: make sure they are in school every day.
We are seeing an increasing number of student absences, particularly at the high school level, and I want to ask for our families’ support. Missing school should be the exception, not the routine. Here are five important reasons why:
1. You cannot replace what happens in the classroom.
Canvas, PowerPoint presentations, notes, and make-up assignments are valuable resources, but they do not replace being present. Students miss teacher explanations, discussions, questions from classmates, collaborative activities, feedback, and opportunities to practice. Getting the assignment later is not the same as experiencing the lesson.
2. One absence can create more than one day of lost learning.
Learning builds from one lesson to the next. When a student misses Monday, Tuesday’s lesson may be more difficult to understand. Now the student is not only making up Monday’s work but also trying to keep up with Tuesday’s new material. A single absence can quickly create a cycle of catching up that becomes increasingly difficult to manage.
3. Every school day matters—even Fridays, early release days, and testing days.
Please do not assume that because it is a Friday, an early release day, the day before a break, or a testing day that instruction is not taking place. It is. Teachers plan instruction based on our school calendar, and every instructional day is an opportunity for students to learn. On testing days, students who are not testing may still have classes, assignments, review, intervention, enrichment, or other academic responsibilities. An unusual schedule does not mean an unimportant school day.
4. Good attendance builds habits that extend far beyond school.
Showing up consistently teaches responsibility, discipline, time management, and commitment. These are the same habits students will need in college, careers, and adulthood. When we allow unnecessary absences, we may unintentionally send the message that commitments are optional when they are inconvenient. We want our students to learn that showing up matters.
5. Being present keeps students connected.
School is about much more than grades. Students build relationships with teachers, classmates, coaches, counselors, and other adults who support them. When students miss school frequently, they can become disconnected academically and socially. Simply being present keeps them engaged in the life of the school and gives us more opportunities to recognize when they need help.
Of course, there will be times when a student is genuinely sick or when circumstances make an absence unavoidable. We understand that. This message is about the absences that can be avoided.
Parents, we need your partnership. Please protect instructional time. Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. Avoid unnecessary early dismissals. Do not allow students to stay home simply because it is a Friday, an early release day, a testing day, or because they believe “nothing is happening.”
Something is always happening: learning.
Every class matters. Every lesson matters. Every day matters.
Please make attendance a priority. The first step toward succeeding in school is showing up.

Art Club is officially underway at our K–12 campus!
Our K–8 artists kicked things off by getting creative with a fun, hands-on art project! Students used liquid glue to trace their original drawings, added salt to create unique texture and dimension, and finished their masterpieces with vibrant soft pastels. 🖍️🌈
We love seeing our students explore new techniques, express their creativity, and bring their ideas to life. We can’t wait to see what our talented artists create next! 🎨💫
PPK12- DP Year 1 Language & Literature in Action!
Our Diploma Programme Year 1 (11th grade) students in Ms. Petrey’s Language & Literature course recently presented a cross-text analysis connecting Langston Hughes’ “Theme for English B,” political cartoons by Herblock, and President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “We Shall Overcome” speech.
Students independently analyzed each work before making meaningful connections across the texts, exploring how language, imagery, and rhetoric communicate ideas about identity, equality, race, and justice.
Through their presentations, students demonstrated the critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills at the heart of the IB Diploma Programme. 📚🌎

Life Science Penny Lab
Students in Ms. King's class performed an experiment to determine which liquid would stay on a penny the longest before sliding off. They developed a scientific question, generated testable hypotheses, and identified the test variables and controls. Multiple trials of the same experiment were conducted to improve the accuracy of their results (repetition) and peers’ experiments were repeated to increase the reliability of the results (replication).
IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT CELL PHONE USAGE
Students may not use cell phones or any other electronic devices including but not limited to apple watches, air pods, headphones, cameras, etc. during instructional time.
ANY ELECTRONICS DEVICE SEEN will be confiscated and secured in the front office until dismissal time.
STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE all electronics put away and out of sight during instructional time.
Florida Stature 1006.07 (2) (f) prohibits students from using wireless devices during instructional time in K-12 public schools, unless a teacher directs their use for educational purposes. The law also requires teachers to designate an area for wireless devices during class. The law went into effect on July 1st, 2023.
Continued violations of this policy may result in further penalties and may subject the student to disciplinary action and/or referral to the school's administration.
Uniform Policy Reminder
Dear Franklin Academy Families,
As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of following our school uniform policy. This year, we will be fully enforcing the uniform expectations across all grade levels, and we kindly ask for your partnership in reinforcing these standards at home.
Please take time to speak with your child about the dress code requirements, which are designed to promote a sense of unity, professionalism, and school pride. A student who comes to school properly dressed is better prepared to learn, minimizes distractions, and reflects the values we strive to uphold as a school community.
Below are a few key reminders from our uniform policy:
All uniform tops and bottoms must be purchased from our approved uniform vendor, iUniforms, and must include the official school logo.
Shirts must be tucked in at all times, with midriffs completely covered—even when arms are raised.
Belts (plain black, brown, or navy) are required for students in grades 2–12.
Outerwear worn inside the building must have the school logo.
Shoes must be closed-toe, safe, and school-appropriate (sneakers, loafers, or Mary Jane style).
PE uniforms must also include the school logo and are required on PE days.
Hair styles and accessories must not be distracting and are subject to administrative approval.
Middle and high school students must wear their school-issued ID badges and lanyards daily.
The full policy is available in our website and by clicking THIS LINK, and we encourage you to review it carefully with your child.
Our goal is not only to ensure that students are dressed for success, but also to cultivate a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to uphold these standards.
If you have any questions or need support with uniforms, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school office.
Let’s make it a great year—
Warm regards,
Sergio Delgado
Principal
🚗 Student Pick-Up Reminder: Uber and Rideshare Services
The safety of our students is always our highest priority. As a reminder, students under the age of 18 will not be released from school to an Uber, Lyft, or any other rideshare service unless an authorized emergency contact is physically present in the vehicle to receive the student.
This procedure is in place to help ensure that every student is released safely and only to individuals authorized by the parent or guardian. While Uber offers a limited Uber for Teens program in some locations, standard Uber policies do not allow unaccompanied riders under the age of 18, and drivers may refuse or cancel rides if they determine the rider is a minor.
If your child needs an alternate method of transportation, please make arrangements with an approved emergency contact listed in your child's records. That individual must be present to receive the student from school.
We appreciate your understanding and partnership as we work together to maintain a safe and secure dismissal process for every student. Thank you for helping us put student safety first.
BYOD POLICY FOR HIGH SCHOOL (Bring Your Own Device)
Franklin Academy follows a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, which allows students to use their personal laptops for instructional purposes while on campus. To ensure responsible use and proper access to our network, families are required to complete the BYOD agreement. Students must keep a copy of the completed document with them until our IT team sets up their device. Please find the link to the document below and submit it at your earliest convenience.

Student Parking Application 2026-2027
As a reminder, student drivers MUST complete the 2026-2027 Student Parking Application in order to be able to drive on campus.
The parking application requires the signatures of the student, parent or guardian, and vehicle owner. If the parent or guardian is also the vehicle owner, they must sign in both places. We will also need copies of the registration and insurance.
We do not consider an application complete without all the required items. Please submit all required documents to the Director of School Operations, Mr. Carnaggie.
Seniors ONLY you may decorate your parking CURB for FREE! Please see the last page of the 2026-2027 Parking Lot Application for specific information. Please submit your sketch for approval by August 23rd, 2026, our Senior Parking Lot painting will occur on August 30th from 8:00AM-12:00PM.
Reminder: Early Dismissal Policy
Until 1:55 PM
Dear Franklin,
This is a friendly reminder that early dismissal for students is permitted every school day only until 1:55 PM. After this time, we cannot accommodate early sign-outs, as our staff and students are transitioning into dismissal procedures for the day.
We ask that you plan accordingly if your child has an appointment or needs to leave school early. Dismissing students after 1:55 PM creates disruptions to the end-of-day routines and compromises the safety and efficiency of our dismissal process.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and orderly school environment.
No Re-Entry
Franklin Families,
We want to keep everyone informed, as safety remains our top priority. Recently, we’ve noticed several high school students exiting through the single-point entry or bus loop during dismissal and then attempting to re-enter campus for activities such as practice, committee meetings, tutoring, or Sibling Link.
Please note that once a student exits through the gate, re-entry is not permitted for safety reasons. Any student who opens the gate for others or attempts to re-enter will face disciplinary consequences.
We strongly encourage our high school students to plan ahead each day and be mindful of their schedules to ensure they remain on campus if they have after-school commitments.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and secure campus for everyone.
