Love the Learner; Drive Rigor
A note from Dr. Burdett - 8/16/26
Bobcat Nation,
Last week was a great short week transition back into the swing of things. Our students looked happy and excited about the new additions to our school, and our staff loved having the kids back to school. Between our volleyball, tennis, cross country, and football teams, we already have much to celebrate, and our cheer, drill, and band teams have been hard at work preparing for another successful year. We look forward to highlighting the many great accomplishments of our students this year!
We have grade level meetings this week starting with Freshmen on Monday during CATS. Please make sure your student stays up to date on their grade level Google Classroom for important information.
For the safety of our buses entering and exiting our campus, please ensure that no one is driving in the bus lane after school. You can see the map below for any questions. As always, thank you for working with us to make sure we have an amazing year and go Bobcats!
For kids,
John

House Bill 1481
House Bill 1481, passed by the Texas Legislature, prohibits students from using personal communication devices while on school property during the school day. The “school day” is defined as when a student enters the school building and ends when the dismissal bell rings. The ban includes classrooms, locker rooms, cafeterias, hallways, passing periods and restrooms.
Prohibited personal communication devices (PCDs) for students include, but are not limited to, the following items:
Cell phones
Smart Watches
Tablets
Laptops
Headphones
Earbuds
Smart eyewear
Gaming Devices
Radios
Pagers
Student ID Badges and Minga
At Celina High School, the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priorities. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment, all students will be required to wear their student ID badge on a lanyard throughout the school day.
The school will provide every student with a CHS lanyard, although students are welcome to wear their own school-appropriate lanyard if they prefer.
This year, we will begin using Minga, the same student ID system successfully implemented at Moore Middle School. In addition to serving as a visible form of identification, Minga provides several important benefits that enhance both safety and the student experience:
Improves campus safety and security by allowing staff to quickly identify who belongs on campus and recognize students who may need assistance.
Recognizes and celebrates positive behavior by giving us another way to acknowledge the outstanding choices that the vast majority of our students make every day.
Supports student learning by allowing us to efficiently identify and invite students to tutorials, interventions, enrichment opportunities, and other CATS activities designed to help them succeed.
Protects instructional time by helping reduce unnecessary movement throughout the building and discouraging students from leaving class to congregate with friends during instruction.
This initiative is not about adding rules for the sake of rules. It is about creating an environment where students are safe, engaged, and focused on learning while ensuring that every Bobcat is known, supported, and celebrated.
Together, we will continue to build a campus culture where every student feels connected, every classroom is protected, and every minute of learning matters.
